I work at the "so-called" best pizza place in town(Cincinnnati). LaRosas, family owned originally but its a franchise and they have been going down hill for years. They are always finding a cheaper replacement for everything we serve. That being said...I like Pomadori's here in town and a place called Catfish Biffs does a damn fine job in Columbus. |

Here in The Big O...we have a home grown place called La Casa.
It's been around since 1953 and the pizza is fuckin' killer... It's Neapolitan so the cheese is under the toppings. |

Never thought it possible to find the perfect pizza, but it seems the only thing I miss from Seattle is Bison Creek Pizza...motto was "if we found something better, we'd copy it" -
Beer crust I believe...canadian bacon, olive, and sunflower seeds...fucking hungry now. |

Probably my all time favorite pizza is from a place called "Old Chicago" in Petaluma, CA. Insane deep dish pizza... definitely the deepest I've seen, although I can't claim to be a seasoned deep dish expert. But I have had people tell me to try a couple deep dish places that they thought were good, and those places weren't even in the same league as Old Chicago. And it's NOT that new one that looks like a fast food restaurant on the website (oldchicago.com), but the one that's in a building that looks like its 100 years old on Petaluma Blvd. Not sure if that new one is related to the old one (how the fuck can they use the same name and be like a mile away if they aren't?), but the reviews I read said it's nothing like the OG place.
The two times I've been to new york, I tried like 10-15 different pizzas each time, in an attempt to find out what all the hype was about. Seriously, slices from like 4 or 5 places a day. None of them were noteworthy, but I'm guessing it's just that I didn't hit any of the good ones, since I was just going into every random place I saw, rather than seeking out recommended places. I did go to a place in Williamsburg (I think) where they give you a full pizza (kind of small, but still...) for free with every beer you buy. I think they only had cheese and pepporoni, and it was so so, but still -- 4 or 5 bucks for a beer and a pizza! Two of them would be a solid meal.

Downtown, we have Caparells', for a good pie with a puffed crust similar to "boboli" sold in grocery stores, Leucadia Pizzeria up north including La Jolla for excellent dough and pie, a few outlets of various "chicago style" pizza that do nicely and the venerable "Pizza Port & Brewing Company" that makes outstanding pizza and good beer.
I went to a place a couple weeks ago in San Diego's Little Italy called Mona Lisa's. It was the best pizza I've had in a while.

HA! I've probably been there a hundred times. Went there all the time as a wee lad. My mom actually worked there for like 2 years. Awesome raviolis. I wouldn't rave about the pizza, but it was pretty good. |

they might have changed because the raviolis made me kind of sick.. seemed like raw pasta dough. and the Pizza is killer. I'm talking about the small back room pizza place not the main restaurant.
and re: NY pizza. utterly unimpressed. the manager from my band who was from there and grew up there took us to this place that was supposed to be the shit and it totally sucked.
answer me this, is the definition of "NY style" large thin cheese pizzas cooked 3 hours ago reheated with your topping of choice?
give me chicago deep dish any day. I'll have to check out that place in Petaluma for sure. |

Never had it through the mail, but your worries about authenticity are baseless and unwarranted.
Enjoy. |

The best pizza on earth is located at Pizza D'Oro, 8468 Indianapolis Ave in Huntington Beach, California.
Their stuff is old school italian, and is of the highest quality. I am not paid to say this, it's frikken true. Not much on ambiance, but the grub is fuckin dine-oh-mite. |
