so i recently tried to burn a screen with some emulsion i had
im worried its expired. how do i tell if it is.
one dude told me that it won't adhere to the screen and another dude said it won't expose.
well it didn't adhere. im wondering if that just means that i have to expose it longer or just scrap the emulsion.
thanks.

if the emulsion goes bad it won't expose. QTX will last a year after it's opened.
If the emulsion is stripping off it's either a really bad underexposure, or a degreasing/dehazing/reclaiming problem. If you don't degrease, the emulsion can come off in sheets.
It's also possible that the bulb/s that are in your exposure unit are going bad or some have burnt out. |

I just get a $7 bottle of 20:1 degreaser from the hardware store (Zep is the company) and it makes 20 gallons. try dish soap and recoat |

I use dawn dish soap to degrease. I figured if it was good enough for birds after oil spills, it would work on my screens. Remember to abrade...that is rough up also. I wipe a bar of Lava soap on my screens and scrub them with a scotchbrite pad.
The Qtx sounds under exposed. Most of my issues are over under exposure. It has a long shelf life. We had an old storage fridge and I had a quart in it for like 5-6 years I forgot about. Gave it a try and it worked. Yes it was cooled all that time, but still pretty good.
You can also have some weird effect if the screen gets some exposure while your drying it. I've had some light bounce around the basement and hit my screens causing some effects like Foolsgold said, emulsion coming off in sheets. |
