Remember when you were a kid and mixed up all kinds of random shit and got your youngest sibling to taste it?
I wanted to relive the experience, and my daughter was game. But I had to do some coaxing as my "responsible" wife was coming home from work at the very moment we were ready for the tasting. The recipe was maple syrup, ketchup, milk, dry mustard, cumin, paprika, and green tabasco.

Don't mess with your kids' eating habits. Bad bad bad idea. That's one of the most fundamental parent/child relationships and requires a great deal of trust. |

Point well taken. We're pretty good parents and make sure Lucy eats what we eat at every meal. No separate entree for the little one. And she doesn't fuss.
We'd been with my wife's youngest sister over the previous weekend and the stories of their potion experiments as young'uns came up. So after that Lucy wanted to "make a potion" and I was more than wlling to indulge her curiosity. But this will not be a regular part of my fatherhood repetoire. |
