when i started getting interested in doing my own graphics i bought this kit two years ago at a store for half off. Mine came with a photo emulsion style stencil set-up and a 10 x 14 screen and 9 inch sqeegee. I made a couple hinges to swing it and went too it. I learned the basic idea and what chemicals and steps are involved in building a stencil(coating and burning your screen with the light) and making a print with this same kit. Its perfect for doing about two or three diffrerent small tshirt designs. but thats it. you'll find yourself halfway done with your fourth shirt design running out of all the supplies. Then at this point you'll know if you 've got it our not and want to purchase the supplies in a larger volume.
and to answer your main Q. Yes, i made a couple nice stencils with mine.
i ended up making about 25-35 prints per stencil. bought some cheap ink. i practiced on a bunch of old sheats with elmers glue too (dyed with food coloring). Ink was not available that night and i have no patience. ha
all in all this kit "will" get you making a couple different style shirts. Its about as basic as you can get really. burning the screen is prob the hardest part and takes some trial and error. Dont quit trying it will click when your equiptment is CONSISTANT and set up at the right wattage and distance from screen. Then youll sit back and giggle over a cold one admiring your newest creation.
its now been two years since i got this kit and now we use these skills EVERYDAY in our wakeskate manufacturing plant. board graphics, T's, Stickers, Marketing, you name it. we do it ALL ourselves.
sorry so long im all hopped up on coffee and screen cleaner. woot woot
good luck hope my blabbering helps |

I just got this same kit sunday, half price.... I decided to try my first design painting on the screen with the screen blocker that comes with it. I got some shirts today so tonight it's on!!
This may be a silly question... but how do i get the screen blocker solution off of the screen after i'm done.. if i want to try another design? Just soap & water? The book doesn't elaborate and i don't know anyone close-by if i need some help.
Thanks!

nope. just take it to the quarter car wash and blast it out with a power washer. They do make screen reclaimer fluids that will do it without a power washer but i learned a while back that you really dont need it. power washers are the shiat. |

You obviously have not tried it have you? go ahead and do it at the car wash. The systems there operate at about 1000-1300 psi and my home system does all the way up to 1500 psi and ive never done anything to my screens but make em brand new again.
Try it and you will no longer be a skeptic. Its funny that you say this becuase i said the exact same thing as you did. then when your done washing out your screens you can clean your foot off with it before you stick it into your mouth. haha i had to say it , sorry

I never said it wouldn't work, fuck you could sandblast the emulsion out too if you want. I guess it depends on how many screens you reclaim a day, and in what condition you want them in after 50 uses. See, I have a 1500 PSI power washer at the shop, and that's what we use to develop screens. I have done as you said, and the 30 cents I saved in emulsion remover didn't make up for the $50 in screen damage and all the extra time I had to pay someone to reclaim. Economically, in my situation at least, it doesn't make sense. I save $0.30 in remover which allowes me to spend an extra $4 per screen in labour to save $0.30 in remover; it might make one feel warm a fuzzy to think that you removed the emulsion remover from your list of bills, but for me it doesn't make sense.
I always give my reclaimer guy shit when I catch him trying to force out the emulsion sans remover, it does too miuch damage to the screens in comparison to the few cents a squirt or two does. Fecking emulsion remover is like the cheapest thing on earth too (get some of that powder that's like $15 a pund and amke 100 gallons of remover) and another thing . . . why am I debating a guy who needs to go to the car wash to reclaim a screen . . (sorry I had to add that because of the foot in the mouth comment) |
