Ive been looking aroud town for a flash cure unit, but it seems they dont make them or import them here - even more, nobody seems to know what they are anyway (yeah you can tell plastisol inks are seldom used in the Chilean screen printing industry).

So, Ive read a few posts about some of you who have used homemade equipment, and I was thinking perhaps one of you could have a general idea on how to make one, or even have plans for one... any help guys?

Thanks.

keep looking locally. Calll a national screen printing distributor, or one of the US giants. I bet they all sell flashes to South America, there's lots and lots of screen printing there. Maybe check out Mexico, lots of equipment it made there, in fact there is an article in SCreen Printing magazine, about some area of Mexico city that's all screen printing suppliers and shops.

yeah, if all else fails Ill have to import one myself directly from the US. Mexico is just as far away and Id rather not deal with them due to bad previous experiences. I know there are also some manufacturers from Brazil, maybe I should try something like that.
In any case, both options are expensive and funds are low at the moment...Oh well, I guess its time for some more cookie cutting at the mall to get the money together.

find an electrician
find a welder
find a sheet metal fabricator

have the welder make a stand that goes up and down, with casters.

then get a sheet metal fabricator to make the housing for the electronics and the heater element.

Order a stove element that's 12"x18" and get it wired into the housing

then get an electrician to wire up a LED on light, a temperature control and the plugs to handle the heat.

you have a flash unit. I priced this out here in Canada a few years ago and it was about $500-$700, so I just ordered one online off ebay for $300 and was done with it.

I can 100% assure you that there is someone making low cost flashes in Santiago. Or check out BLACKBODY, they will sell a flash without a stand for a fre hundred bucks, get a stand made and you are all set.

Thanks a lot for the heads up. I know AINOS well, I took some classes there, but up to this day they have been of little help.

Surprisingly, I've not heard this about them before. Perhaps there is someone there who is more capable than others?

I have been in communication with a couple from Chile, who live in Dallas, Texas currently. Their family is in the screenprinting business in Chile and they want me to travel to Chile to teach a class there.

If you are interested in this, please email me at [email protected] for more information.
