hey everyone,
this is just a follow up to a post i made a couple weeks ago. . . do any of you screen print shirts with waterbased inks? i know it happens cuz i see the prints everywhere. i'm just curious if there has been even the slightest movement toward useing waterbased on shirts in the industry.
thanks

I don't think that waterbased inks will be a major part of the commercial printing industry for a long time. They work great on light shirts, but are virtually worthless on black or dark shirts. PLus they crack and so forth, not to mention the drying in the screen problem. With proper setups, one should be able to acheive a soft handed print on darks using plastisol inks. It's all about everything on 200+ meshes |

I really doubt that you see waterbased prints 'everwhere' cause I think there;s one shop in the US that uses WB inks for commerical work. You are probably seeing Discharge printing, which is when the 'ink' bleaches out the shirt colour and sometimes replaces it with another colour. There's no way you can do it yourself without a 14' dryer and 2-3 flash units .. |
