Can't see the plans for the press? I got another question, since I will be starting off using a heat gun to flash my shirts can I do a final curing of the shirt with a piece of parchment paper (wax paper) and a household iron? If so how long should I do this for? Thanks again everyone. |

Iron will not work. The entire ink film must reach 320 to cure. You can cure with a heat gun, but it will be pretty hard to get consistant results. Try your household oven if you are feeling adventerous. |

Ok, I have some jiffy hinges so i am going to design something up myself for a press and just use the money I was going to use for the press to buy a flash unit. How long should I flash the shirt if printing white on black (for the ink flash ink process)? and how long should I flash the shirt to cure the ink? I will be using Union ink. Thanks again. |

1) get some temperature strips
2) get a laser ray temperature gun
this is al relative to how high the heater is, is it infared or a stove element? You want to bring the ink to between 180 and 240 or so degrees, or until it just dry to the touch (touch it, if you get ink on your fingers, flash longer) then it's gelled. If you flash too long (over 240 degrees or so) and you start to get close to curing the ink. If you cure the ink you will have trouble with other colours sticking to said ink layer
I have found that if you are print/flash/print ing white (or any other colour) and you lay down the first coat and flash, if when you lay down the second coat you still have lots of ink left in the open mesh, you are probably flashing too long and curing the first layer. The reason this is important is that if you are adding say another 5 colours on top of a layer of white, and the white has been cured; you will notice that all your top colours will have pits in the ink film. These pits are because the first layer of ink was flashed too llong and began to cure, where the pits are are spots that are either uneven, or cured and ink will not stick properly to it.
Are you using Union PADM1027 Bright cotton White? That;s the one I use here, print all day long through a 200 or 230 mesh. great stuff I think. |
