hey everybody, i'm a newbie who could use some help. i own a screenprinting shop and have been printing textiles, posters, stickers, etc. for quite a few years, but we would like to get into board printing (tip to tail) i have printed tween the trucks already.
if anyone out there has plans for a setup that works i would be very interested in any help that could be given or bought or traded. i have gone through alot of this forum and found some good tips but i really need help about building the screen and the jig?
we would have no problem printing veneer first but it seems more labor and money intensive, it seems easier for us to buy crates of blanks and then do the printing.
again any help would be greatly appreciated,

We did screenprint our veneers before making boards in the past allowing for tip to tail prints. The easiest way to do it start with a wooden box. Make or buy. 30cm x 100cm x 15cm.
We also purchased a swing arm for the screen. It was crude and rude but worked. Ill try and take some pictures but here we go...
First we drilled holes in the top of the box about an inches apart all over. then cut a hole in the side of the box to allow for a vaccum attachment. Thus making a vaccum frame.
Second we attached the swing arm to the other side of the box so that it could be lifted up and down with a screen that would hopefully cover the entire area. You will need to allow for slack and all that when mounting the swing arm (if you've ever screenprinted you'll know what and how much is needed). Remembering when you switch the vaccum on it will suck the topof the box in to some degree which will increase your mesh travel.
Depending on the strength of your vaccum you may need to drill breather holes in the sides of the box to reduce suction. You may need to cover up any exposed holes if your vaccum doesnt suck enough!
This worked a treat, after they dried we used a low tack adhesive tape to protect the print while we worked with the board.
Of course you can only use this technique if you are making boards. |
