Screenprinting is an artform in itself. It has a look and feel that cannot be produced with a transfer...
Most quality shops that do heat tranfers screen a large portion of them -- when done right, it's fucking awesome. |

Question: If a heat transfer is screen-printed and then applied to a deck or veneer, isn't that still screen-printing? |

I got some sample transfers from this company just to see what they're like. Pretty interesting stuff.
Does anyone know if you can apply them to a deck thats already been pressed? If so... how? I tried a blow dryer on super hot, I tried an iron with a piece of paper between it and the transfer, I tried a towel between the iron and transfer and I even tried my 150w light just for the fuck of it. Do you think a heat gun would work? What if I ran it through this big over we have at work ? Any other ideas?
Thanks, I know heat transfers are lame but they're interesting. |

Yes and no. Like I've said before, there are awesome heat transfers out there that are partially screened. But there are elements that the printer can do better. The trick is to screen what it can't do well. But's it's still a heat ransfer in the final analysis.

Thrashcan - Most heat transfers are applied to decks that have already been pressed, shaped and cured. A blow dryer isn't hot enough. An iron won't work either. You need an industrial heat element a rubber roller that can manage the heat. |
