Do you think it would be possible to get an old deck mold from a company that doesnt use it anymore.

Maybe you could try to find out who makes the molds for the manufacturers and obtain one of thier rejects. That is of course if the mfgs use outside contracters to build thier molds.
You could look in your area for a small scale woodworking shop that does CNC work. They could be able to mill the mold pieces for a reasonable cost.

CNC time and the laser scan are REAL pricey at some places.

I'd be surprised if any company gave up a mold. Many have been destroyed over the years so nobody can get the mold and open up a bootleg op.

Swollen I hope your fam and you get a better time on the beach than most of the tourists this year. The poor folks who came here and got caught in hurricane alex probably won't be back soon. No tropical systems out there to speak of, so next week should be ok.

Check your PM I left you some contact info, see you then.

this may sound like a really stupid idea but

why not buy an uncut blank and using cement and a wood frame create a mold? a top mold and bottom mold.

just find a uncut blank that you like the concave of, and then find a the deck shape you want and then with a stack of wood, a jig saw, a drill, and a press it`s disco time.

should cost you $5 for the cement. the frame you can make from any old ply(its a temporary frame for holding the cement for when you pour the cement.

maybe you should reinforce the cement or make it thick.

or perhaps make it like one of those sandwich toaster hotplate things with a hinge at one end.

Alt that is a very good idea and not a stupid question at all. Even easier is just using the uncuts and a bunch of C clamps for pressure. You would.t really need to build a frame for it. The down side to that is that the amount of pressure you will be able to apply to your decks, the amount of decks you would be able to press at a time and the longevity of the final product. You might be able to press 2 decks per run but the pressure and even clamping that most decks are made with will be hard to get with a thin mold and no hydraulics. If you can come up with some veneer to press a couple of decks this way it will get you started. But when you get into production runs you will want to have a better mold that can handle more pressure more blanks and and better overall clamping.

if cement molds are costing ,say, $5 a pop, then why not go crazy and build 10 of them or 20.

and have each mold hold just 1 or 2 decks at a time.

With the frame, I meant that as a frame for when you pour the cement.

I`ve been wondering over this idea for a while.
