Hi there.
So I've recently started collecting decks, specifically decks from the late 90's and early 2000's.
I've come across a few decks that I would like to buy, but am not sure how to know if they are genuine or possibly fraudulently rescreened (I've been told that this is not unheard of in this hobby).
If anybody has a way of identifying if a deck is genuine, please let me know.
Are there serial numbers or anything I could look out for, was it normal for decks in the mid-late 90's to be shrink wrapped?
The seller has a clean history.
Cheers guys! |

Thats what I loved about this forum in the heydays.
You could buy so much awesome stuff and with a little common sense it was almost certain you wouldn't get ripped off.
I bought a deck almost every week with a good felling, no bullshitting, no stupid facebook groups, less stupid people.
About your question, first it would be good for you to know if there are reissues of the decks you wanna buy.
If you wanna know if there are fraudulently rescreened decks out there, you must be in the scene for a long time just to have the knowledge.
I advice you to tell what deck, decks you are talking about, otherwise if you are a noob there is a good chance you maybe buy a rescreened deck.
Powell has serial numbers, but these could be faked also.
A lot of decks in the later 90's were shrinked, in the early 90s not many were. |

Another thing, your post doesn't belong in here I think.
Maybe this should be moved into general discussions. |

What was also good was that there were so many of us keeping alert so anything sketchy was instantly called out. |

There are a lot of old threads here discussing the topic you mentioned.
Artofskateboarding.com has a few articles on it as well. |
