Dear fellow skaters,
My name is Thomas. Ive been skating for around half a year now and I still enjoy it very much. Lately however I started college. I had an idea to include my hobby of skating in some of the assignments I got there. This resulted in a skateboard with a LED strip. The ledstrip aims to simulate lightning. Because this is still a prototype, the leds arent integrated in the skateboard yet. This however is something I plan to do in the future. The leds will be mounted under a clouded epoxy layer, this way I can pour out a lightning shape and keep the rest wooden. Then I can paint a cool artwork around the epoxy to really make the artwork pop. To finish the assignment I would like to know opinions of skaters about this project. Do you like it? Love it? Or maybe hate it! And, would you buy such a deck for say, 20-30$ more? (assuming it lasts as long as "traditional" decks). Any reccomendations, ideas, tips and also critique is more than welcome. If you have any questions regarding this projects which you would like to know, do not hesitate to ask them.
I thank you for your time reading this and for your possible comment in the comment section.

Stay rolling,
Thomas

I don't like it.

1: Extra weight
2: Powersupply and fixtures would catch and or come off on the first boardslide

I don't like it.

Surely you could have done a cleaner job, first "prototype" or not.

And why the arduino board? I have similar led lights that just plug straight usb.

Maybe I'll dig out a couple rolls of electrical tape give it a shot myself.....not likely.

My LED job I did on my pedalboard looks cleaner than that.

The LEDs would be better on a longboard that is not used for anything but cruising....not so good for a smaller deck that is used for kickiddy flipiddy tricks. Try to get a smaller battery and circuit board so you could maybe place them out of the way like adjacent to the truck baseplate under the axle. And if the LEDs could also be hidden there they wouldn't get in the way going over curbs or scraping the board wherever.

Much better idea (but not as fun) than me squirting lighter fluid on the bottom of the deck, lighting it on fire, then skating down the road.

If this is a school project...what grade are you in?

I had to remind myself that. That he said he was in college, and not some grade 6 project to get his dad to help him with.

Must be like Sprout Shaw or some shit.
