See you get it. I get called a variety of things because to a collector it's seen as waste. Why would I sell something that is either inferior or didn't reach it's intended goal; either as a final product or a personal best?
Some people see it as they're not getting something because I am being greedy and missing the point completely It's not so much about a message, a mission or a question of quality but one of I see this thing in my head and what I just made isn't it.
Neil Blender does the same thing and I know of tens of artist and only personally know some 10 artist that all do the same thing. The idea is to have out their in someone's hands the best you could have achieved at that moment and time and that is what an artist should be satisfied with.

You got to keep pushing yourself.
Agree completely. I'm going through it right now on a deck....just not satisfied yet, (hours and hours lost) but personally i'm rarely, completely satisfied with any piece, painting, deck, or whatever i'm making. |

kray,
Does an artist appreciate more the art of other artists than his or her own becouse it can't be revised? What I mean is can you view your own art the same as when you see some that is as cool as yours but made by someone else? |

I appreciate the time capsule of others work. Most artist revise sketch after sketch and some just can hit it the first time but it's what an artist presents that is captured in the public eye and in memorial that is all we know....we don't see the other process behind the finished art most times.
Here is a deck I killed last night at 4:30AM. Just didn't come out the way I thought it would so instead of polishing a dude it's better to just start anew. Hardly a ground breaking awe inspiring piece of anything.
It's a waste of several hours but the waste would be something that isn't what I see in my mind translate to the deck.
Incidentally people wonder why their orders are waylaid, because whatever price commissioned for I don't deliver suck.

Thank you for your answer kray. That's what always impresssed me about artists of any kind like what you do, musicians, kustom hot rod people etc. They do what they do against the grain of society. While I'm looking at that or listening to this (what they produced) and saying wow that's pretty cool, they (artists) are off making more. Very often sacrificing their own comfort in the process which is the craziest part of all. You must be passionate about about it or you wouldn't be doing it at all,(sorry for capt'n obvious there, ha ha). |
