| So...will Valspar or Krylon react under brush-on polyurethane from Minwax? |

Valspar no. It may bubble.
Krylon, yes, it wont react.
You'll have to do a quick thin coat first then let set up 24 hours.
But bucket Polyurethane is different spray Polyurethane. Poly isn't a solvent base to Oils since some Polyurethane's bucket clears have water in them.
The rule of thumb is waterbased clears over oil and oils based clears over waterborne art and acrylic works over most water based art without reaction.
So you'd clear with acrylic over watercolors but you would not use acrylic over acrylic art except over acrylic oil pens you can use acrylic clear, it will actually dry out the top layer of the pen ink and create fusion.
In the 14th century the clears used where shellac, which was a fast evaporating carrier like pine-alcohol with an inert clear subsistence like ground down horn(vellum) or baked ester and or various starches from plants.
The ancient Egyptians used a mineral based powder clear that dissolved in water that they polished on or the excretions of a beetle. In fact they made extinct the beetle and mineral deposit both by using the shellac to cover the Great Pyramids.

There is a species of Coccus lacca(Lac Beatle) still about, you can still make shellac from it's excretions.
Maya blue is the worlds longest known lasting protective coating, about 2,000 years with 25% fade. It's made from palygorskite clay and indigo but only comes in blue.
Oxe blood and lime is a good protective coating but comes in red only and smells.
Baewax, animal gelatin and clay works if you're a dead Egyptian. |

It's just paint.
Colors are life dude. 400,000 years ago someone mixed red iron oxide and sulfer yellow with water and rubbed it on their body....then someone brained them for doing it because they wanted to be smeared in yellow and red.
The Spanish conquered half the world looking for spices(as well means minerals to make color)
Aspirin was discovered while trying to synthesize a blue dye to cut off the Dutchs stranglehold on the color red.
Artificial caffeine was discovered from black dye.
Del's quest for color is an age old journey. |
