Gonna be straight, you don't want to work for them.
The people they have hired are douches.
This is an example of what you got to do.
You'll just churn out shit, no one will know your name, no one will praise you and in the end it's crap and $40K isn't money for doing art, not in LA.
You'll be given 12 hours to come up with 40 or 60 designs.
Best hop to it and steal as much as you can when you can.
Churn, churn, churn.

Kray, what do you mean $40k isn't for doing art in LA? I'm not sure I follow...do you mean that they wouldn't pay that, or that is low? I mean, I currently make more than that doing art in Miami, and I used to make about that in LA, but I wasn't and I'm not doing skateboard graphics. Really, I just want to find a cool job and go back to school for architecture, so I actually applied at SCIarc recently. Just keeping options open. It's really tough to get in anywhere in LA at the moment. |

40k a year doesn't seem like much to be living in LA. but I could be wrong.
You could have a couple roommates, not drive, eat once a day, and don't attend any extracurricular events... |

You'll pay 9.8% state income tax is $3,920
36,080
Fed tax 27% is $9,742
Which leaves 26,338
A two bedroom for you, the wife and the kid is $1,350 a month average x 12 months and is $16,200
That leaves $10,138 and is divided over 12 months is $845 a month take home pay. That is for car insurance, food and illegal alien you have to hire to raise your kid while you wife gets a job to make ends meat.
It's a job for a single dude, 2-4 years out of college.
When a job posting on Malakye says 2-4 years experience they really mean 23 years old(average age of bachelors in art) and plus 4 years experience = 27 year old.
It's a shit job in the industry.
You'd work for them for a year before they fired you like everyone else they have ever fired that I have known.
They don't want 30 year olds working there, you might get clued that they have an art director, creative brand manager that both make $84,000 a year that do nothing besides create tension by creating drama all day.
There sales people make the same amount of money as there graphic artist. In some cases more.
If you are over 29 years old, you need to be a creative brands manager or art director. |

Look at mister high-stepping eat once a day....must be nice to be so hootie-tootie with your one meal a day.
Must be nice to live the Monopoly Guy lifestyle.

Not to deter you but I hit up one of my friends that has a similar job laying out print ads and she said:
40K isn't much for someone living in LA.
But it's really low for a graphic designer.
Seems like they want a kid to do the work.
Realistically it's a 48K minimum, realistically 56K max gig. But reality is 65K.
You have toy companies, movie companies, advertising companies and game companies scrambling for people ever day.
$40k is fanboy pay after taxes.
You can make more blogging about how amazing the Justice League movie. |

cool, I was just curious. That is the reason I did not apply. I am still looking though, for out there. I did apply to Studio Number 1, but I accidentally sent repeats on my portfolio which is a douche move on my part. I'd love to get back to LA so I can move on and up...as right now Miami is pretty bad for a designer. |

the money in the skate industry is notoriously low, like Kray said basically entry-level, fanboy salary.
The salaries he posted are what you'd realistically find doing similar tasks for a traditional design studio/agency based in CA; about 60~63K. |
