lookin' sick! don't trip so hard on the antennae- let homie work his magic and be done with it. tons of more areas that you can add detail to that will add to it all...

Hope to get more of the progress shots up this weekend. Had some problems with the manufacturer about the layout but they're officially in production now.

So here's something I forgot I had cuz it was only on my PC at work. After working on some basic aspects of the character design I wanted to show Jason the layout I imagined.

Compared that craptatic chicken scratch with how Jason drew it up.

.... moving along.

So the layout was getting dialed in but the antennae were problematic. Here Jason was able to evoke the old Andorian look I'd been wanting all along.

... except the hole at the ends that made me think of a urethra at the end of a dick ... so the holes were dropped.

you can also see the level of detail that's going to be in the cockpit and the rad background that was evolving. The scarf is longer and blowing in the wind.

Next we have more layout revealed.

The idea of a skull buried in the sand evolved into a stormtrooper helmet. There's "tips of the cap" to multiple sci-fi references in the image but up until this point no Star Wars. The problem became though "how did that get there?" Is it his? Is the planet not that barren after all? The other references are also pretty subtle and this was pretty overt.

On the ship are stickers that are eventually dropped.

The logo on the tail seemed too... well I'll be blunt... too Nazi-esque. It was modified with the eagle being dropped.

.... coming next time will be the colour mockups and their evolution. This pretty well has the drawing dialed but is NOTHING compared to what some colour and Jason's further skills can do.

These boards have FINALLY be ordered and should be arriving in 4 weeks and will be $45 plus shipping.

So here's some of the colour progress that I can finally reveal now that boards are being delivered this week.

Here's the first colour version. You can see we dropped the stormtrooper helmet and there's no skull at all. Jason's added a lot of texture with colour alone.

Here's more colour. The sky is an early version where I was asking him to make it look like a hot Jupiter atmosphere. It didn't really work too well for me so Jason made it right (see below) with his own idea. There's also a lot of "airbrush" look to it. I wanted it more solid like a New Deal graphic from back in the day.

So here's a flatter colouring without all of the shading.

So here's even more colouring. The sky is now showing a star field which I htink looks pretty cool. The lens of the goggles and the skin colour are kind of hard to distinguish and I felt it could use more colour int eh scarf so I then sent him some SHITTY photoshopping to give him some ideas.

So here I changed the lens' to white and added some colour stripes to the scarf. This was actually Jason's idea as a tribute to Dr. Who.

I then on a whim talked about somehow incorporating a hologram look from R2D2 to give it some kind of nod to Star Wars. I thought it was a bit out there and too much work to suddenly announce on Jason last minute but the guy is a frickn' genius and was able to come up with this final version.... hologram logo on the tail and all!
