To me its food in its simplist form.
However, i dont ever seem to be able to get the same 'greasy diner' style taste the same.
Myabe its the bread im using, or maybe the cheese but im just not too sure and thought at 04.50 this fucking morning 'hmm why not ask all the snb'ers
so whats the way you do em? |

medium/high heat on the stove top with a frying pan
toss a small chunk of butter in the pan and swirl it around to coat the pan
butter the outer sides of the sandwich(lightly mayonaise the inside)
use 2 slices of the cheap grocery store kraft singles or similar cheese
assemble the sandwich and toss it in the pan
let if "fry" a bit , browning on the one side....then flip it and press down on it with a spatula
let that side fry a bit as well and then continue to flip it continuously until it reaches the desired mixture of greasiness and crispiness
enjoy |

I do the same as jacob minus the mayo and adding either a slice of smoked ham or turkey. |

I'm no fan of the cheap cheese. I'm a cheese snob so no cheese slices or velveeta. I prefer cheddar, monterey jack ect.
I keep it simple with cheese only but sometimes I've thrown some left over chili in there or even salsa. Fresh tomato slices is good in a grilled cheese too.
When adding extra goo to a grilled cheese I'll use one of those sandwhich make things. Straight up cheese I'll use a pan and butter as others mentioned.
I like to dip my grilled cheese in ketchup which is odd for me but I like it. |

Thought this was about cheese on toast! But I think it's about toasted cheese sandwiches. We used to have one of those Breville sandwich toasters but they get filthy and the cheese becomes as hot as plasma when you bite into it. Now we just do cheese on toast: grill one side, butter the other, throw on good quality, grated, strong cheddar, a dash of Worcester sauce or Hendersons relish if you can find it. Grill until it starts to burn. |

Did she live in Sheffield?
Hendersons is a little bit like Worcester sauce I suppose, with more of a kick.

She was in London. I really like Worcester and HP sauce so I'd probably be all over that Hendersons stuff. Come to think of it, I have a Coleman's mustard problem too. I love that stuff. |
