I'm thinking of building a deck that will be an "off color" dipped color.....say reddish brown.
Is there a preferable paint that can be changed to any color I might want? The paint MUST accept water-based acrylic that will be screened onto it...
the paint MUST go down in a thin, even manner.
How did they get the different dipped colors on the old decks .....
were they sprayed? what kind of paint was used? water-based?
help me....... |

i think most companies use water based now. |

I think it has to be water-based.....
What are you deck builders using? Any particular brand that you find is working well? I would like to be able to "manipulate" it to make any color..... |

as long as you are using similar based paints, you can mix your colors fairly easily.
get a grip of white for a base. and for mixing. |

we use kemaqua, waterbased laquers.
available at sherwin williams.
they sell clear, black and white.
the standard tint system in the store will work
for mixing colors.
we actually buy the tint mediums and mix our own colors. |

we have a big 5 gallon spray system that is always stocked with clear.
then we have a few automotive style paint guns to lay down colors.
for "dip" paint jobs, stack up the boards in a vertical
and spray the edges first. 2 light coats.
then lay out, spray tops, 2 coats,
then after tops are dry, a good few hours,
flip and paint bottoms. |
