Story goes like this..in 1990 a guy walked up to me and a rather large group of skaters and gave this to a friend, who forgot about it.
It's a 3M 1 inch reel with the original hand written vault # and Powell Peralta signed on the label. I've been told this is an ACTUAL MASTER COPY that they made VHS tapes from on big machines when the vid came out.
Is this thing worth anything?
How would I get the best money from a collector?
Returning it is out of the question..

and under no condition can u return it once bought? what if it turns out to be a fake or whatever? that is lame. just ebay it and let the poor buyer get stuck with it.... |

I'm sorry I didn't take the ghetto school of ebonics, plz reply with a translation table so I can understand what the hell you mean.
This is a vault copy of this movie, which means it was STOLEN FROM THE VAULT. I mean returning it to Powell is out of the question, whether I sell it or not. If I don't, fine..then I'll keep it indefinetely, I've had it since 1991.
Don't try to put any ebonic words in my mouth, you obviously took me out of context, and it sounds that scamming people might be YOUR thing. I'm probably twice your age and have been skating 15 years, and it happens to be my favorite thing in the world, and we're in the same boat, and your all trying to make waves. This IS a video trading site is it not??? |

| P.S. I had an injury that left me unable to walk for almost a year and a half..the doctors said I'd never be able to skate again. Now..whatever makes you mad enough to go and talk shit on a fellow skater needs to be fixed. I'm not trying to rip people off, I mean if thats what your used to Kyle theres probably an explanation, like you warrant that kind of abuse with your attitude. You obviously took my words out of context on purpose, I don't think anyone could accidently do that..unless your in the 8-10 year old age bracket, not making fun its just I don't know how you can be so distrustful of someone, when theres no basis for it. And wtf..calling me a hoe?? You just need a reason to think your not a little dork or something?? Thx..thats what I thought. Just skate and have fun, your never gonna get better than anyone else if you take an attitude like you already are. Pro skaters almost always are among the nicest people I know, and I've never seen anyone with your attitude even given a chance, despite how good they may be. |

it was a TYPO by the way.. it was a quote from you... "HOW... not hoe" sorry for the keys being right next to each other and my mispelling of the word. I am not trying to bust you out, just quoting what you said. and now you admitted you have STOLEN property from a skate company. trying to sell it publicly is not a wise thing to do in my opinion. and actually I have been skating longer than you, but that is besides the point.
Hey, buy a super rare video that was stolen, nice.

Yup..exactly, it was stolen from the vault. Which means it is the only one in existance thats outside the vault..And I've had the thing for 12 years and its still in mint condition, I don't even have a machine to play it on. If you HAVE been skating longer then me, then you know how corporate Powell was in the 80's, and that they don't even really deserve it back..lol.
Look..I'm not the one that stole it..I've been safeguarding the mofo since I've had it in my posession, because it happens to be a piece of skateboarding history. Why should I not want to try and find a SERIOUS collector who might actually be interested in it. Its not a damn VHS tape..and some day it WILL be worth money. Sorry for the comment about you being 8 I guess, but I mean, you only wrote one paragraph and managed to accidently call me a hoe...LIES. Unless you just talk shit without re-reading on a daily basis. Respect the English language and your fellow skaters.. |

you came on here offering something up, but your first post didnt make much sense. i think the ebonics comment should have came from kyle rather than you. and you get all snippy and defensive over an OBVIOUS typo...get real holmes.
anyways, you also wanted to know how to get the "most out of a collector." thats an easy way to make yourself look like a greedy shmuck.
granted, we dont know you, but it might be better to build some sort of trust here before coming off like this.
youre also selling stolen properties. so you cant take it to ebay, and alot of people on this forum personally know the folks that may want that back. so id keep it a little more on the DL and cherish it in quiet.
i dont know. youve definately left a bad taste in some poples mouth right off the bat.
whatever though. welcome to the forum.

I understood what the guy was saying, I also knew kyle had a typo. Lets all just relax.
Everyone one seems so eager to fight and this is the Holiday season.
You said yourself that you can not play the tape so you cant really tell us whats on it. Since it is stolen your best bet since this area if the forum is not the most widly read is to offer it to someone who appears to be a Powell fan in a P.M. and not a post.
You didnt really expect every one to jump with offers to a guy on his first post selling a stolen tape did you. |

The most isnt always assuredly the best..which is how I perceive things that have monetary value. Im of the belief that as far as historical value is concerned, skateboarding items, real items of value..in the future may well be as sought after as priceless literary works. Don't laugh. The reason skateboarders were always getting harassed in the 80's is that people can't relate to things as evolved as our sport..
Lots of evolutionary steps were taken to get our sport to the place its at now. I see skateboarding as being bigger than soccer in the next couple years as far as youth sports popularity is concerned, and my scope is that just as an activity to get around will be far more utilized around the world. We're talking a sport that went from a few thousand in the 50's to at least 15 million in this country(probably twice that at any given time that only do it for a short period then quit), and how many million more everywhere else.
We very well could see skateboarding in the olympics whether we like it or not, just because of its popularity, and how positive an activity it is (admit it..its COOL to skate now). We've only had a skatepark for 3 seasons now in the city..yet its been illegal and punishable since the 80's to ride anywhere in the downtown area.
Sorry if I offended anyone, if kyle could copy and paste I might not have responded so harshly at his grammar..but he did take me out of context, anyone could see that.
You think I'm going to ripoff someone just because I consider an item to have value? I've kept this thing in mint condition for most of its existence now..and came to the realization there might be actual collectors who might speculate on its value, but instead we have an immediate personal attack on me..
OK.. so I'm asking info on how to get money and have an item in good hands..why does that make me the guy kyle and the other guy are making me out to be. Im f*ckin proud that I got to see a large part of the evolution of skating first hand, and that makes me some kind of dummy? And saying you personally know people that could be directly related to this item is a funny resonse..like your trying to scare me into returning it..rofl. I FOUND this thing left on a bench after some wierd guy gave it to a guy I was skating with. My board broke that day 12 years ago, and would not have found it if I went skating with that large group; I saved this thing. And you act like I'm the thief;guilty before proven reasonably innocent. Thats mob style, I'm sorry, I lost a bit of respect for you do to you responses.
