I agree with project, if you aren't down for the industry the keep your hands out of my kool-aid. I feel the same about Nike skate shoes. One of my manufacturers has told me that girl already uses china wood. I believe thats why they lose pop after 3 weeks.

talking about nike shoes, did you know Paul Rodriguez is moving from es to nike for 1 million dollars? I hate the way brands like nike are buying their way into the skateworld.

Skateboarding has definatly taken a turn. I was a skatepark in Fullerton Ca and there were more bmx-ers than skaters. First of all from my opionion I think skateboarding popularity is going down. I agree what Chris is saying about china, but on the other hand the world revolves around how you can make the most money. There are two sides to skateboarding on how it is turning out. One, you have big corporations that have money that can do anything. Two you have skateboarders that are really good and want to make a carrer out of it. If it were not for the corporations than the skateboarders would not be able to make a grip of scrilla. So it is good for that. The shitty part is the guys at the top don't know what the fuck is going on, making shitty product and giving skateboarding a crappy look to some. It is the same thing that is going on with hip hop and rap.Rap is giving hip hop a bad name with this big rims, cristal, club bullshit. Now the youngin's that are growing up thing people like 50 cent are hip hop. It's a shame but when the trend is over you know who is down for what.. It's the same with skateboarding. Just do your shit for what you think is down and fuck the rest. I already have started up a company ran by by people that skate and that's how it's going to stay. I will post a new link when my shit drops. Clothes and decks.

Yeah I'll probably get hated on for this , but has anyone noticed there are 3 billion people in China?

Having 3 billion people means they need all the jobs they can get. The cost of living there is waaay fucking less than it is here, so yes they will get paid less than what a US worker would. But its all relative.

Below is a snippet from an email I recieved:

If everything moves mass market with skateboarding, the sport will suffer the same fate as the music business...there's very little remarkable about that...it's just a formulaic industry....that's not
what skateboarding should be....my fear is that the process is excellerating ...

don't get me wrong, there is room for the mass market, but why even tap into that market? again, i go back to this fundamental question...has this drive to be a
mass marketing machine helped or hurt skateboarding....?

my head and heart tell me NO. we are running more pieces about the marketing of skateboarding over the next few issues...as the days progress, I feel more confident of where I want to take things...I want the chinese folks and companies like Dwindle to respond...I doubt they will

why do soft goods guys like Sole, DC Quiksilver etc get away with making stuff overseas (and reaping huge profits) and
hardgood guys are taken to task for moving only a part of their stuff overseas...my gut tells me is that hard good companies represent the TRUE soul of skateboarding. The
shoe companies and clothing merchants sell the image...the option of looking
cool by wearing the "skate style" products.

i believe the hard goods companies are responsible for the success of the soft good guys. they have sacrificed profits to create specialized products....

you can't be a little bit pregnant...and you can't be semi mass market and keep a core following...dwindle is a variflex now....

if skateboarding is becoming so mass market, how will that affect salesof soft goods?

what makes skateboarding special is the fact that there are some products you just can't find at walmart etc....
