Yeah watch out for the Great Whites that have been spotted at trails for a few years now.

When I visited SD, I found Tourmaline to be a friendly vibe, lots of families surfing and stuff. It is a good longboard break.

I never surfed, but I'd really love to give it a try. It looks Awesome. I guess I can try to Windsurf in Lake Michigan, but I don't think that would cut it for me. You guys are lucky. I have a Transworld Surf Subscription and always wanted to surf since I started to skate, but never really had the option to do it. This sucks....

I don't see my mailman (Actually a woman) alot since I'm at work when she comes. But when I do get it, I do get a weird look, but at the same time, you can tell someone looked the magazine over because it's usually beat to shit by the time I read it....

Yeah, I had a surf/camping trip at the campgrounds off PCH in Carlsbad last year, and I really liked the break there.
I was thinking more about the Pacific Beach/Ocean Beach area since thats relativly close to me.
I guess I'll just have to check out a few spots until I find one I like.
OB is a great spot for beginning and longboarding. It's also a great spot for advanced surfing - yesterday it was way overhead out along the jetty and some good peaky rights.
The most common place for beginners is La Jolla shores. The farther left (south) you go, the better. As you get the feel of it, start to move north, until you're near scripps pier. Then, next stop is blacks, but you'll want to take a shortboard.
There are a lot of good spots from La Jolla all the way to Del Mar.
Where we surf every day at lunch in the summer is Torry Pines (north) / Del Mar South. Basically it is where Carmel Valley Rd dead ends into the cliff. There is an easy path down to the water. Or, park right on the water in the clearing - or in the parking lots for a couple bucks? |
