There is an all-concrete Stamford-style skatepark proposed, pending approval on 3/12. The current funds to be approved for the skatepark are $225K. After the anticipated approval they hope to line up another $100K in state money. The local skatemom behind the effort is optimistic about the whole thing. This is all I know. I will attend the meeting and report back.

You know people do actually shit there, in a pinch. Behind that building with the permanently locked bathrooms. I've seen it myself under similar but different circumstances. So it would seem that Groton will have some new shit and some old shit.

Fairfield will be bidding this out to design/build firms, not modular firms. It almost went the other way in a meeting I attended earlier this week. Certain modular firms are on the state's bidders list which makes buying modular (cataloged) products simpler and faster for a city with a charter like Fairfield's. The process for getting cast-in-place takes longer and will be broken in to 2 bid cycles (1 for design, 1 for build). The city rec guy either missed or underestimated committee folks' opposition to modular in earlier meetings. I'm now providing sample "design/build" request for proposals (RFPs) and skatepark builder web links. Hopefully they're accepting design bids soon. This pushes the ETA out to spring 2009.

I also showed them some recent pics of Wellfleet. The same shallow water table applies in Fairfield. I think they have a good feeling about Breaking Ground. Sam gets good feedback from Milford and Wethersfield. I could see the rec dude's notes incl. where he'd written down the Wethersfield Rec Director's name.

Other names mentioned: Team Pain, California Skateparks, Grindline, Pillar Design.

Thanks to Jeff at DayOne, committee skate dude Kelly, and to some determined skatemoms in Fairfield.
