Hey,
first off, wasn't there a forum on restoring decks?? What happened to it??
I just got an O'Brien reaper off ebay - full of stickers, tail worn, a lil' beat...the reaper and the fireball are mostly intact, however... 2 scuffs or something. Price : 225$
I sure overpaid, but I like the deck and wanted one back then (but got a Street Creep) - and I sure won't drop $800+ for a NOS one (and definetely no 2000$ like our friend on ebay did a couple of months ago)
My question concerns the sticker glue residue... HOW DO I GET THAT SHIT OFF WITHOUT DAMAGING THE GRAPHIC???
I'd taken stickers off other decks in the past, but they didn't leave as much residue, I could easily wipe it off with some alcohol. This time, however, I've got to rub it off, and this will damage the graphic...
Will post a pic soon...
Will be thankful for any info!
Cheers,
Dan |

There is a restoration forum. It's under Collector's Forums and you have to be logged in to see it I believe.
Drip a small amount of goo gone on the residue. Use your finger to spread it to cover the entire area of "goo". Let it set in for a minute or two and then use a library card (or something similar) to push the goo into clumps. Use a damp rag, etc.. to get the clumps off.
Continue until all "goo" is gone.
As long as the paint isn't splitting/weathered really bad & you are careful and don't rub too hard it shouldn't pull up any paint. I've never had a problem with this method.
TIP: It isn't about rubbing super hard (that's a sure way to hurt the paint). It's all about patience.
BTW...I've restored a reaper as well. Except mine was a piece of shit that I got for free but I managed to bring it back to life a bit.

@ sidewalk surfur -
damn great job, man!! Can you turn my stack of firewood into reapers, witchdoctors, Grossos as well???
Thanks for all the quick advice!! I really appreciate it.
I guess I won't find that very same "goo gone" over here in Europe, but I think I know where to find something similar...
Here's the reaper :
Before :
Now :
DAMN, it looks even better on the original shot - but that's because I took the "now" shots with a phone camera... I guess I'll have to buy a digital camera someday anyway
Naw, seriously, I won't restore it - as long as the main part of the graphics is OK, I prefer to keep it original...
But it might look better set up with some Indys and Bullets, what do you think??
Another question - will some olive oil help?? |

Hell yeah! It looked cool to begin with, I'd a left it alone.
Don't you hate when people put stickers of the very same graphic as the board on the bottom of the deck |

...AND IT LOOKS EVEN WORSE NOW, because I used some European "Goo Gone"-type product that ate up a chunk of the fireball ....
I tried on a small part of the tail, but didn't notice anything unusual, so I dripped lots of it on the front part...when I started scraping with a card, parts of the paint came up as well...
...I MEAN DAMN, MY FINGER CAN ROT STRAIGHT OFF, AND I WOULDN'T GIVE A FLYING FUCK....but not my reaper!!!!!
Oh well, I oiled it up, it still looks better than the one on egay, that has scuffs on the reaper's face (it's at 199$ now), but WTF... I can't even look at it now, since I'm looking straight at the fucked up part instead of the whole graphic...
Anyone has a NOS reaper for sale????????? |
