Get up right now and go rent or buy "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" The Robert Rodriquez flick. I'll wait.
Got it? Good.
Go to the "Extras" or "Bonus" section. Look for "10 Minute Cooking School"
Robert show how to make Puerco Pibil. Same meal Johnny Depp's character always orders.
It is unbelievably good. Finishing up the rest of the leftovers now. |

does anyone really call it that? I was under the assumption that nope, nobody does other than that movie. I've asked my family (half of them ar from El Salvador and some are mexican), and so far everyone else also has said that it is only called Cochinita Pibil.
But regardless of what everyone says, I don't know anyone in texas, so perhaps that is what Texans call it?? Rodriguez lives in texas correct?
Anyway, I love that stuff...it it's made correctly it's like pork melting in the mouth. I did like that extra section...made me want to grab some banana leaves and pork ass |

I'd never heard about it at all until I saw the movie. Got the DVD the week it was released...made the recipe about 2 months after that.
We ended up buying a banana tree just for this recipe. We've made it maybe 12-15 times since. SOOOOOO Good!
We tried it with Chicken a couple of times, really good...but not as good as the Pork Nirvana. |

I'll check and see if Mrs. GOB wrote it down...she's sort of a miracle worker in the kitchen and works from her head.
It's a 5lb BONELESS Pork Butt, a banana leaf, some lime, and ?. Cooked low and slow in the oven. |
