Old bearings questions

Trawling through my stuff I have come up with three sets of old bearings from the 80's. All the bearings spin, and I intend to clean them up and use them. Anyway, my questions:
I have three different brands in the sets: NMB, Nachi and some that I suspect are the fabled Sims Racing Gold Seals. Well, they have 'Sims Racing Germany' on them and the shields are a gold colour. I know they were all good brands, anyone got an opinion as to which were 'the best'? I recall somewhere that the Sims were pretty shithot back in the day.

How best to remove the metal shields on the bearings? I'm used to cleaning modern nylon shield bearings you see.

As I'm thinking of selling a complete board, which set of bearings would be the ones to let go?

What's weird is I have no recollection of ever buying such flash bearings, they must have been in some secondhand wheels.

I always preferred NMB because they had shields on both sides.

I don't know about taking them apart, but my buddy squirts a little WD-40 in them, then soaks them in power steering fluid for a week. Renews them like they're brand new.

NMB's

I still have a set that's been skated since the 80's//

Still fast as fuck. Probably faster than they were when new. Not as fast as Ron's, but hey... they are 20 some odd years old...

disclaimer...I am a kook and mostly skate down the driveway!!!

MC Hammer and Grant Fuhr on coke is the only thing I remember from the 80's but I boil contemporary bearings in vasoline.

*I've been talking to everyone I know about bearings these days.

*not both of them... just Fuhr.
The Hammer Man was high on SELF RESPECT!?!

you got the nmb bearings from Vick Ford surf shop in Bondi Junction as that was all he stocked early on. He then moved onto nachi's

The Sims bearings may have been in my original Bones which you traded me some dogtown and krypto's for back in the day but im not certain.

check the front of the bearings should be a metal circular spring to keep the shields on use a good knife blade to pop the spring try not to put the blade into your hand (been there done that bled on the t shirt).

soak them overnight in a organic solvent (metho, alcohol, aviation fuel should work)

some bearings were never manufactured to be cleaned and the shield was pressure stamped into place. usually these have 6 or 7 radial cuts for 3 or so mm if thats what you have stick the bearings in a jar with diesel for a week or just throw them out and buy replacements

I've still got a set of Sims Racing Gold Seals, that I got around '79.
Retired them last year, when I found Ron's.

clean up the Sims and put them up on ebay, there's always a demand for those.

The Sims Gold Bearings were made by SKF. I would keep them and sell the complete with the common nmbs.

You can open one side, clean them, lube them, then put the open side, inside the wheel.
