if you want to buy a mixing system, check out the Wilflex PC Express system. I just got this system for my shop here to deal with any non-t-shirt related printing. It's totally different from other systems in that you have gallons of bases; T-shirt base, 100% polyester base, 100% nylon base, puff base, discharge base, flock base, reflective base, cork, wax, ice, rock, high density base. Then you mix in pigment concentrates (PCs) to create your pantone mix.
We use it because no one here can mix colours by eye, and this system allows us, with the click of a mouse on the internet, to order a base so we can print that elusive Pantone #202 Red Puff Ink, when just Flag Red Puff won't do at all; or a lime green 3M style reflective "Security" on the back of a jacket. It's amazingly versitile and if you need a mixing system for your shop, check this one out. It's kinda complicated to use at first because there are calculations that need to be made to balance out the pigments/plasticizers and resin bases, but if you have a PC then the ink software does it all for you.
Plus it was less than $400 CDN, compared to the Union Ink Mixo system (which is amazing) which is around $1000 CDN.
Polyester printing bliss begins now (despite the terrible smell of hot poly) |

I use the MX kit from Wilfex, I believe it cost just under $400, however it is only a pantone mixing system for standard plastisol inks, no puff, flocks or metalics. It does however include software for formulas, a pantone swatch index and 20 colors of ink. It gives you the formulas to as little as ounces and up to gallons. The nice thing about the kit is that it comes complete with all of the inks (maybe around 20 colors of ink) you will need to mix all of those pantone colors and it comes with many flourecent inks as well. I will check out the PC Express, thanks for the heads up. By the way I have only ever used Wilflex inks, so I have nothing to compare thier inks to but I am dead certain that Wilflex makes the absolute best plastisol inks.

PC Express system is basically the raw manufacturing of the ink, at least that what the rep told me when I bought it. It's the same way they make Wilflex inks at the plant. This system also has about 30 little pints of ink, but you use about 300Gs of base, and each pigment goes in in increments of about 2Gs, .5Gs etc . . very small amounts of additives.
I print alot of sports jerseys, bags and jackets, so I get alot of work with Nylon and Polyester, we carry gallons of the standard colours, but sometimes need to mix and match some logo on a football jersey. I am totally excited about being able to buy a gallon of Discharge base, and mix a Pantone #345 Discharge colour, AND be able to mix just what I need. And then be able to make a quart of dark red puff ink. Without having to buy a gallon or quart of red puff. And once you have the base, you can deal with any colour needed in that formulation. Wilfex carries lots of fancy bases that simulate ice, cork, rock and one base that, when printed properly, can make a print that looks like it's flocked, or is a plush type fabric and there is another effect using that same base. I am waiting to setup discharge so I can print discharge underbases and then print their 'Fashion Soft' base overtop to make a really thin, almost waterbased feel.
the ink software is great too. There is a recycle function so if you have a pint of PMS#106, and #345, you can findout what colours you can mix with those already mixed pantones, and then the computer adjusts what you need to add to make it all work. You can also print out the formulas and stick them to your ink containers so you know what's there. |

hey, I was actually just looking for information on the Wilflex PC Express system. I'm also from Canada, can you tell me where you purchased the system?
Also, I noticed you do a lot of Polyester printing. This system will work with plastisol inks for print on cotton and blends right?
thanks. |
