I'm running into problems trying to make dubs for a few people and was wondering if anyone knew how to get around Macrovision when taping from VHS to VHS. If you have any helpful insights, please help me (and in turn, jcarloni and the Green Monkey) out here. Thanks.

You will need to get yourself something like this. Seems prices have gone up on the considerably. I bought a similar one last year for about $30.

Gato--Hit me up with an email with what the situation is...

I don't know what Macrovision is, but I know you can get around the copy protection of some tapes (maybe this is tremendously outdated) by removing a little magnetic strip of tape that's in the inside of the tape case itself, under the little 'hood' that pops up so that the VCR can read the guts of the tape.

You didn't hear this from me...just hook it up VCR to VCR style (or DVD to VCR) with no television as an intermediary.

Thanks for the tips everyone, but I've managed to defeat it in a much simpler way. Namely, the AV department at work. They were kind enough to make dubs for me, and now jcarloni and Green Monkey should have their vids today or tomorrow.

And Juarez, that's the way I was doing it, and it still gave me the shitty fade in-fade out crap. What the hell was New Deal doing copy protecting their tapes in the nineties?

Gato--They arrived today.

Thanks again.
