This is precisely the kind of thing that the cameraphone was invented for. I'm sitting in class and I feel my leg vibrate, open the phone, and there's this picture of his lunch.

10 minutes later, I vibrate again and get this picture.

Speaking of grease and dirty plates, etc., the new Dawn Direct Foam dishwashing soap (pumps by hand, not dishwasher soap) is staggeringly efficient. It works so well, I feel guilty that I'm probably harming the environment. Check it out. You won't believe it.

Don't tell me you haven't ever eaten anything more hardcore at Hector's...

Hector's? fill me in ??
And oh yeah, i have had some pretty gnarly meals...

like the Heartstopper-- an "off the menu" item from a little latenight greasy spoon i used to go to some years back

(layered from the bottom up)

1. Burger Patty
2. Bacon
3. Cheese
4. Fried Egg (over hard works best)
5. Cheese
6. Burger Patty
7. Bacon
8. Cheese
9. Fried Egg
10. Cheese
11. Smother in Chili
12. Onions
13. Cheese
14. Sour Cream
15. Jalapenos

alternately, for the Dee-luxe variant, replace the burger patties with chicken fried steak, or ditch the burgers and build on a base of beef enchiladas.

with a side of fries, of course
Now that I am married man, my wife tends to not let me eat such things

I'd eat the shit out of one of those Heartstoppers. Where can you find such a thing?

Hector's is on the NE corner of Franklin and Henderson (or maybe the little street east of Henderson) on the second floor. It's open until after the bars close. I usually ended up getting some combination of burger patties, cheese, chili, bacon, an egg, and slaw, although they have a whole ton of different things they'll pile on for you.

There's a great BBQ place over off of 54, I think N on Merritt Mill or Smith Level (it's been a few years since I've been in CH, so in addition to the directions being hazy, it may not even be there anymore). If it's still there, it's in the same building as a little c-store and possibly a laundromat.

Linda's on Henderson had a divine chicken cordon bleu sandwich (as well as a great beer selection), but it was closed the last time I was in town. I think the owner committed suicide or something, so I don't know if it was a permanent closure or if it's still there. It is/was across the street from the pencil mural.

You'll probably have to make your own, these days. I used to get them at a little place called Star Seeds cafe in Austin. Started off as Stars Cafe-- is attached to a motel on the interstate. Total greasy spoon. Awesome. Used to go there after a long night of working in a bar, back when I did that. Then they got bought out (by someone else) when the motel got bought out by days inn and got kinda hippie-- started having hummus and whatnot in addition to the old standards. The staff were cool as shit and they'd make you anything you asked for -- if they knew you and you followed the rules there. Nowadays, it's still a late night mainstay; but they are on a computerized kitchen system and are not down with anything "non standard"... drag.

I'll have to go look for it-- been digging Allen & Sons, Jim's (where red, hot, and blue was) and the Barbeque Joint... always up for trying somewhere new...
