With the SLAC race here last weekend I had the opportunity to see just how far downhill equipment has evolvedtremendously from drop downs and composites to race wheels and trucks they seem to really have had a spur of ingenuity.
I'm not seeing that in other areas of skateboarding... moreso I've witnessed de-evolving.
Why?
What are you going to do about it? |

Ok,
Here is an example.....
After trying out many different formulas. I have switched from the industry standard glue to a new laminating formula.
Faster drying, less deflection, and far less warpage.
Of course this to will be tested for a while to see if indeed I am correct. |

I think some of the board makers here, are already doing a good job. Downhill, slalomboards,
maybe will only get more flex after a time. But a board for Street/pool/vert will always
get trashed. Combinations with wood, formica, carbon etc. are what makes boards last longer.
I think there are some other greater holes in skateboarding still today:
There are so many hard wheels in 98,99a and many soft wheels from 74 to 88a.
But you only find, one or two good wheels with 90a to 97a, maybe from 58mm to 64mm.
Why there are not also so many wheels in that range ?
In the 80s Nhs, Powell, Vision, everyone was making wheels in that durometers, today? hm..
Trucks, many small streetskating trucks, many slalomtrucks, many longboard/downhill trucks.
But again, in the middle (9-10") we have only tracker and indy, not really better trucks as yesterday
and nobody else offers a good truck that wide. |
