UCSD Longboard Poker Ride & BBQ
Sunday, May 21st
2:00pm to 6:00pm
Grab your longboard and join us for a fun skate around UCSD. The course is designed for beginners & cruisers and still has room and mileage for experienced riders out to have some fun, share the stoke with other riders and hang out together. Registered riders will pick up cards at designated stops on the route, to collect a "Poker Hand" of cards. Prizes awarded to the top three hands, and all registered riders get a raffle ticket.
Huge registration fees: $2.00 UCSD students, $5.00 non-students
Just learning to skate? Want some tips? No problem! Pro DH and slalom skater, Isabelle Caudle, will be on hand to give tips and instruction on skateboarding, and will offer a special clinic for new riders that will include the opportunity to get a "poker hand" without riding the all-campus route. On the main course, member of San Diego's Ninja Bomb Squad will be out, offering tips on slide technique & style.
It's a real safe bet we'll throw down some cones for "longboard slalom" somewhere, and guaranteed you'll meet longboarders of all kinds. We've got loaner boards, including our very popular, fully-dialed in SS-29.
After the rides, enjoy fresh burgers, brats and cold drinks, while we hang out, award prizes to the winning Poker Hands and raffle off schwag from Silverfish Longboarding, UCSD's WCTV, Concrete Wave magazine and anywhere else I can drum something up! It looks like WCTV has some passes for the preview-screening of X-Men 3 for us.

It's easy on a college campus, Homer. Make it either a Res Life or student org event. |

The day before (Saturday), there was a downhill race held at UC Irvine, which was put on by a student organization. Not too well organized (finish line was on the steepest part of the hill, with virtually no run out - carnage city), but they pulled it off. That may be the ticket- get a student group involved, especially as a fundraiser for some type of charity, and you could pull off just about any type of event... |

Yep. The UCI event was put on by a fraternity, as part of their philanthropic programming. Back east, there's a college that supports a huge skatefest for Arbor Day.
In the coming months, we'll be working to shut down a portion of road within UCSD for a slalom event. |
