Graphics to Board

if you are hand drawing your graphics and need to have them input on an illustrator program, can you simply scan your artwork in and then fit it on a template for screening? i might try bypassing the illustrator program altogether, if possible, and have the mfg deal with that part of the process (depending on cost). Anyone have any insights?
