OK people if you dl a file and can't play it, try this: download and install the nimo codec pack (http://nimo.titanesk.com/modules/news/). Restart and try to view the file. I usually use windows media player (I am on version 9), but ONLY upgrade if you are experiencing problems.
It is an idea to also try playing files with Real One player too (my copy of Hokus Pokus will ONLY play with this player). When installing the real player (www.real.com) be absolutely ruthless and vigilant with installation options (choose custom, or advanced or whatever it is)otherwise you end up with autoupdates running and really irritating shortcuts additions to your desktop everywhere). I prefer to untick all the file types that the real player will play and instead start it up myself and drag a file into it to see whether it will play. There are some interesting faqs on codecs on the ati website here http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/codecs.html
I highly recommend reading them, they clarify some points I was never quite clear on...

The format is most likely DivX and you can download it from http://www.divx.com. Alot of the videos I have seen are DivX format, you can either use the Divx player or after installation and it should play fine in Windows Media Player, not sure if it will work on version 9.0 as Microsoft seems to try an combat this DivX codec as they have their own version of DivX. |
