I'm trying to figure out the best way to get this top graphic on my skateboard:

You can grab a high resolution scan of the Action Sports logo / sticker here.

making that grid using frisket film to trace it is impossible right?

I dread even exacto knife cutting out the Action Sports portion of the picture:

Am I looking at a silk screen here or do I have other options?

Cheapest way is probably taking your time and creating a stencil...

Stencil, Pencil, Mircowave.

Yes you heard it here first! This can work and I have done it for a stencil a very long time ago before I got into screen printing.

You will need:
1. Plastic based stencil material, not too thick, maybe frisket paper.
2. A lead based pencil.
3. A Microwave oven.

Trace your image with outlines using a lead based pencil, not too heavy.
Then place your stencil in your microwave oven and turn it on for a 5 seconds. It will start sparking in there, don't worry you won't melt down your microwave, it can handle this. The sparking of the metal pencil on the stencil will cause it to burn through your stencil material. After it is done you can pretty much peel your stencil to reveal your image.

My experience is you should experiment on this technique, different heaviness of your pencil and microwave oven power and duration will give different results.

Life threw me some curves and I had to step away from this project, but now I'm starting back up again.

Drunk Engine- Interesting idea and a real life saver if it works. Any idea where I can find *real* lead pencils? Weren't they outlawed in the 70's? I did a search for lead pencils but couldn't find anything about them containing real lead.

Ineed, that kind of pencil is hard to come by. After posting this I went and attempted to locate the exact pencil I used back then to do this with so that I could document it. I tested many different pencils from my art box and box of forgotten art supplies and can not find one that will produce these results. However I may have a solution for you and if your interested you can PM me.
