Interested in getting a longboard. The first one that has caught my eye is the G&S RetroRide 2. Ive been trying to find opinions of it...or any of the non-Fibreflex boards...but so far no luck.
These boards:

Anyone have any experience with them? Pros/cons etc.? How would it be for a first board?
Thanks in advance! |

I have a Retro ride, it's narrow and flat ( non concave) It's not as good of a carver that you would think ( I'm goint to cut mine for a drop through set up) For a first longboard I would have a recomend a board with a concave and a kick ( like a hyper-carve) I have a DeathBox bearslayer that I have as a all around longboard also the Skaterbuilt Trim delux kicks ass, But it's so nimble that it doesn't seem like a longboard. |

Homer80....thanks....but too late....I have one on the way..... I got the complete setup brand new for just over $100
For some reason I was thinking it had concave.....@#&!
Maybe itll be enough to get me hooked, then I can look into something better. I was thinking it would probably need a better truck setup, how much a difference will that make?
What trucks have you tried on yours? Any recommendation? |

I had Seismics on it (180's) and they were too stiff. that's because the board is flat and narrow. The complete comes with G&S trucks (Indy copies) they aren't too bad but they have like a 2" plastic riser. I would recommend a nice wide truck and get rid of the plastic risers. It's not a terrible board by any means it just did nothing for me.
Now that I think about it a set of Randal RII 180s would be a nice set up for that board, then if you got the money add some Abec-11 flashbacks or better yet Gumballs. The wheels that come with it are probably made by Kryptonics so who knows what your getting with Duro ( I gave mine to my Son he uses them on his Dogtown surfskate.) |

Do you mean no riser at all? Lower is better I would think....am I wrong? Is there any need for risers on a board with cutouts?
The wheels have 77 or 78a printed on them I think.
I had just read Randal 150s....why the extra width for 180s?
First thing I noticed about it..."made in china". Pretty much says it all.....price point board.
Still...im excited...its kind of a family (my son and I) xmas present so I havent ridden it yet, just stood on it once.....feels really cool. |

Sounds cool. I wouldn't upgrade or get rid of the trucks
and/or wheels just yet. If you can, save up for a new setup;
so that you and your son can ride together! |

Zamdrang: If you get hooked and decide you and your son both need a board check out Subsonic:

They just made me a special 28" board that I'm real stoked on, it was a good price too. They have some nice longboards like the Swift 40: concave with kick tail, made in the US by hand with excellent customer service |
