Im tired of taping transparencies together for larger images. Is there somewhere that sells long transparencies that I could print like a banner on my computer? If not maybe a roll would work. They have to be standard width.
I'm not sure of my printer type..its a dell if that helps.
Thanks alot for any help. |

For a set up at home you might have to invest some bucks.
If you were sure about a graphic and have it in adobe, or illistrator. You can go to your local map/ blueprint printer. You might still need 2 copies to make the exposure black enough.
I still tape all of mine together, I just invest in glass. If you go to garage sales and thrift stores and buy old framed pictures, it is quite cheap. I have a basic printer with a 1200 x 2400 and a program for transparencies that came with it. |

You live in Baltimore. I guarantee there's some Blueprint shops. Also try some print shops. |

I did the taping thing for years
it's slow but it works
I bought a hp 9600 when it came out abut 2 years ago, large format, up to 13x19...
they have a new model version out so you can find the 9600 on closeout pretty freaking cheap
I saw it as low as 150.00 a few weeks ago at staples
you can look around and find it online for about 200.00 |

13x19 are 50.00 for 50,
so a dollar a piece, and if I only use part of it I just cut it down and reuse the still empty section
I have a pretty heavy volume and go thru about a box a week...
the ink carts are a little small and last about a week as well with that level of voulme
so I figure my transparency costs at about 1.50 a screen...
a little higher then it actually is, but it al lworks out in the end...
I run the 9650 on greyscale with a noraml print setting...and never have a problem with my exsposures,
the 9650 does not work with a rip however... so you have to create all your halftones before hand, but I think it gives you greater control over the half tone anyhow. |

You should be able to get it in a roll too. Might be cheaper. |

I have had problems with roll film. Sometimes multicolour seps don't line up, or if the film doesn't get cut 100% square it won't load right. I use a large Epson so that;s just my experience. |

I did the 'taping' thing togther for a while when i had an ink jet. I'd print out stuff on overhead projector film for the ink jet, you can buy that in most stationary stores. I got into the habit of printing one , then leaving it to dry, then putting it back into the printer andf running it through on the same image (so you get double thickness). This worked out pretty cool but it is expensive on ink and film. The best investment i made was buying a Post Script Laser Jet. I got an A3 HP 5100, it cost a fare bit but i've seen A4 ones around for about 100 quid. With one of these puppies you can do all of you colour seperations in Photoshop or illustrastor and just print them off one by one onto laser fil, (this stuff is made by a company call Kimolec and if you're in Britain Screen Colour Systems will supply it the cheepest). You can then make your image super dark by spraying it with White spirit (with one of those plant misters) and gently drying it with a flash gun or leaving it on something warm. The Laser toner reacts with the spirit and goes really black and opaque. Friends of mine who can't be bothered with the cost of the lazer film have come up with a cool little method. They print off there seperations onto regular paper and then rub Baby oil (not oil from babies) into it. The paper turns semi opaque and the ink turns super black. It works great but gets a bit messy to clean up and you cant keep the films after. The great thing about lazer post script printers is that you get the option to print off your multi colour image in seperations with regi marks and at different dpi's without having to alter the image. They're magic! |
