I have had a lot of fun on here lately answering some peoples questions. As some of you know I make skateboards from veneer to shrinkwrap. I have an extensive knowledge of most manufacturing techniques, and in the event that I cannot answer your question I have some very skilled people to ask. So if you have been wanting an answer and just haven't asked it yet or you are new to the forum; please go ahead and ask.
I support the do it yourselfer and love to hear about other people making, printing, or designing their own skateboards! |

Sexy? Careful you might be devleoping a fetish. I know the dangers of that, I sometimes become arroused when I look at a really good skateboard. |

Ok guys I guess we should actually start asking some questions, I was pressing some decks yesterday and while I was, I thought about you guys and I thought I would ask those of you who are laminating your decks what you think the best application method of glue is. I will just go first and say that with a large operation a double roller glue machine is the preferred method. It looks like one of those old clothes drying machines that you would put your clothes in and crank by hand to squeese the water out of,(in fact I always wanted to buy one of those old machines and see how well they would work.). The ones today are made just for glueing and are motorized and coat both sides of the veneer, but you cant pass the top and bottom veneer through them, cause it would get glue on the top and bottom of the deck. If used improperly there can be some problems but a good operator makes the difference there. it is fast and efficient cause it recycles the glue well and coats the veneer well. This is fine and dandy if you need to make 100 or more decks a day. However what if you are making 2-4 decks a day? How would you apply the glue? Give me some of your answers and then I will tell you how I would do it. |

I make about 2 decks a month.
I tried the paint roller out saturday. It was fast and easy but I seem to have wasted a good bit of resin. I usually just dump some resin on the veneer and spread it out with a plastic scraper. It takes a long time but I have a better idea of my coverage and use alot less resin. |
