I've got this BDS 38" longboard with Randal 180's on it(thanks StrangeHouse) so now I'm down to deciding what wheels. I threw my extra set of Alva Harcores on there just to see what Randals are all about..........WOW! killer trucks.
As far as wheels go I had a set of 78s and they were a little sluggish for me. So I'm thinking something in the 85a area. I'd like the speed of a harder wheel but I'd like to cruise over cracks, etc without feeling like I'm trying to cross the Grand Canyon.
What wheels does everyone suggest? Is 85 to soft/too hard for what I'm shooting for as far as a wheel goes?

Which 78's were you running?
I've had good luck with 80a Avalons (3dm) and 78a Powerballs (Pink/ABEC 11). Above 81a or so, and I start to get too much road buzz. |

and Mark......they were some cheap Kryptonics...TGM has them now so he may be able to give the stats. They were so damn slow you almost had to push when going DOWN hills.

I got me some abec 11 flashbacks in 81a and there the best wheels for cracks, roll over anything and are very stable and fast, also no road noise!  |

| I ride some 85mm Kryptonic Classics, I think they're 85a. Very smooth ride and the size means they're fast also. Normally I don't even bother avoiding the little stones in the street as the wheels bounce right over 'em. |

| Two wheels I love in that range. Rainskates Tsunami Orange (85a) 65mm and SMA Viagras (88a) 62mm. Both great wheels. |

| The opaque Krypto's measure nowhere near their claimed hardness. I have some 85mm Classic K's that are supposed to be 80a, and measure 72-74a. |

| Yeah, the Manx, Flashbacks and Avalons are all bad ass, but they are all sideset or flatbacks and are gonna stick out way too much with 180's ... They would all probably be Killer with 150's .... Check out the Abec 11 Grippins; if you want a bigger wheel, they are a Centerset 70mm, and come in 84a ... otherwise the Rainskates are a killer choice, and Powell also makes some Bombers in 85a-- 64 and 68 mm. The Gravity Street G's are sideset and narrow.. might work out for ya, the 85's are not bad wheels at all... |
