I try to use fair trade coffee, which is not easy to get some times. We have an old Coffee Shop here were you can get all sorts of beans, but it's very pricey. I use a 70's Coffee machine, which in fact is just a boiler, in a bright orange cover. By the noise it makes, my neighbours know when coffee is ready! They don't make things like that anymore today.
Coffee from all those modern machines with pads suck, just like real italian coffee gives me the creeps. Even with the extra glas of water, my stomach revolts.
And now having a mug. |

Weird to see my post from 4 1/2 years ago.
Still drinking coffee. We're rocking a fair trade organic Peruvian bean right now. French press, still. |

Anything but that crap Starbucks serves. I guess if you like burnt tasting coffee it is ok. The Folgers we have here at work gives me a stomach ache.
French press with Kicking Horse Pacific Pipeline medium roast beans. All I need now is a decent grinder. |

That is not just coffee, that is heaven in a glass. I have one at least once a week along side a big bowl of bun, or a whiteboy special as I like to call them. |

Served over ice? The coffee is filtered cold, then? |

It is filtered hot and drips down over the ice and condensed milk. |

I'm gonna have to try this to see what it's like. The condensed milk bit sounds good, the ice I'm not so sure about. Guess I need to try, but doesn't it make the coffee kinda not-hot, but not-cold also? |

Chock full o nuts...because I am. It's cheap and good. I used to be pretty picky about my coffee, but I drink so much of it, I needed to save money. When I was in Cali it was always Coffee Bean over Starbucks...if we're talking chain stores. Never had Pete's. |

Sort of. Technically it is Vietnamese iced coffee. By the time I drink it the mixture is cold from the ice. The glass is usually filled to the top with ice, after the sweetened condensed milk is put in. You could just pour a couple shots of hot espresso in and essentially it would be similar. Just stir the coffee straight away to disolve the condensed milk. That is if you don't have a demitasse as that is what is used to filter the coffee.
When I order one, I let it sit and do it's thing and let the coffee melt the ice. It kind of waters it down a tad but it is still a heavy duty coffee/sweet/caffeine explosion. I'll usually pound it back when I'm done my bowl of soup or rice noodles and walk out of the restaurant with a serious caffeine buzz.
Also, I'm unsure if condensed milk is available unsweetened, but you must use the sweetened variety. I'd say about a tablespoon or a heaping teaspoon should do. |
