I am thinking of getting a new set up, but if I could find the right plans I might build again, so what's your exposure set up?

I use 8 4' unfiltered blacklights 1.5" from the glass and 2" apart. Set inside a melamine box with a timer. I set it for 36 seconds for meshes 110, 125, 157 and for 26 seconds for 200 and 230. I get great burns with QTX. Best bang for your buck would probably be to buy a 1000W Metal Halid from a weed growing shop. Single point light source should give you better halftones. I bet you could get a whole setup for around $170 Us. Suspend it from a cord from the ceiling so you an adjust your hight. I think that's what we are going to do in our shop when our 30"x40" frames come in

my biggest concern is my burn time and half tone development. I have looked at both systems, and just trying to decide which will work best...
I am also looking for some descent vacuum options

I use a white metal halide 400w bulb.
It is in a sun systems fixture and uses a balast from them too.
I get excellent exposures. I almost nevr do half tones.
The light is 5.5' away from the screen, exposure times are about 45 min for thick emulsion coatings.

I think if your concern is speed then the flo. tube setup is the best bet, unless you do a lot of process work, or very tight halftone registration; in which case the MH is best because of the increase in resolution. We just exposed a 6 screen job in under 20 minutes including washout, I think that's pretty good.

I make screens for decks, shirts, and stickers.
I am not under time pressures. Sometimes I take all day for a set of screens.
Either way I have a great set up and I am happy with the result.
I am currently fine tuning my concaved screen system. I can tell you that when you get into concaved screens, time is not as much of an issue. Mostly because the can be pricey to screw up.

One more thing...
The direct light source from a light this strong can leave over exposure marks in your screens. I usually set the screen off center from the light, I also use a black backer for every exposure, under the screen.
