Could this little prick become anymore commercialised? I mean really! I just saw an advert on the TV for a remote control TONY HAWK PRO SKATER toy. That's funny, I thought he was a robot already. What's next? TONY HAWK PRO SKATER trademarked hot dogs?
Finally was shown the TONY HAWK PRO SKATER video game... pretty cool, you can slam the little souless bastard on the cement and watch the blood splatter |

Knowskateboarding that was very funny:-)
I don't mind that T Hawk makes a few bucks on the r/c skaters its next year when they have the r/c skater half pipe's handrails and safet gear
I really dislike the skateboard wheel yoyo's and pencil sharpeners though even if they are quite a clever idea and it pisses me of that 2 generations of skaters have grown up to skate like hawk when he never had any style
It is kind of funny(ironic) that skating has a bit of a bad boy image when frankly the two most influnencial skaters of all time mullen & hawk where always seen as geeks,
its like peralta spawned a monster lost control took astep back seen what he had done and then made the z-boys film to try and address the balance by putting style back on the map
z-boys is a GREAT film but by the sole nature of its focus also excludes alot of GREAT skaters from the same era. |

For Christ's sake that bastard is sponsored by Club Med! How insane is that, how may skaters do you know that have even been to Club Med? None of my crew, that's for sure. And what the hell do bagel bites, and hot wheels have to do with skating anyhow?

I hate to bag on anyones hero's, I have always kinda got that feeling from the whole Stacey P/Powell Perelta thing... they are all of the same mold...Although they are all good skaters...its always been big biz for most of em... comercialization and the whole works...
Not that it is a totally bad thing....It just kinda goes against the grain a little bit about what skateboarding has always been about..
I think that is what I respected about the santa cruz guys.. To me, I think they all stay closer to the roots...a little more underground...
But hell, It doesn't even matter today...you can go to your local grocery store, and pick up any skate zine and it looks like a f'n Macy's Christmas Catolouge... they are about 1" thick, and about 3/4 of it is all f'n cloth's ads....
Ohhh the Horror.... |

Devil's advocate...sort of. I just read Hawk's interview in the new issue of Big Brother. It made me actually respect him somewhat. He shitcanned the Club Med thing because he felt that they were taking and not giving back to skateboarding. He also has a foundation that doles out grants to fund public skateparks, provided that the get designed by skateboarders. And I saw him helping some old ladies cross the street once...aww, hell. Fuck him. |

as a skater who's never give up has lived the life and took the falls you have to respect him but as a media puppet who only goes left right left right on some x games 1/2 pipe with kids looking on like its a tennis match I think he is destroying skateboarding
but I bought his book and came away thinking It was a good read and he didn't take himself too seriously.
what really gets me about him is he only buys mint!! |
