Does anyone have any suggestions as to what trucks/wheels/hardware to set THIS board up with? It's my first longboard, and I'm not sure what to use. I want it mainly for downhill/cruising/carving.. Overall length is 48", widest point is 9.5".

Many thanks again to BartD for the hookup.. Can't wait for this one to arrive on my doorstep.. What a beautiful board.

Trucks: Randal II 180's. Switch out the bushings to Khiro barrels or Radikals. Replace the kingpin with a 2.75" Grade 8 piece.

Wheels: Something from 3dm (Avalons or Avilas) or Abec11 (Flywheels, Flashbacks, Grippins, or Gumballs).

Biltin bearings if you're going to use those wheels. Trust me on this.

1/8" - 1/4" soft risers.

Have fun.

Yeah, what dangersticks said. Might go 150mm on the trucks if using a wide, sideset wheel, though (Flashbacks).

Hard to go wrong with any of the 3dm or ABEC11 wheels.

Why are builtins better in abec11, because they are the same company?

Yeah, why? I run Rockets and spacers in my ABECs and don't have any problems.

Thanks for all your help folks.

I'll probably be in touch with you next week, Mark.

Cool. I'll have to post a pic of my trimmed-down Avilas.

If I may butt in here...

I believe Dangersticks likes the Biltin/Abec 11 combo because he rode them across the USA a while back. Chris set those guys up with bearings and wheels...and there were no problems.

Biltins are very decent bearings, I've got 10 or more sets...easy to clean, lube etc. Ron's are very well loved (I have no personal experience on them). I'm not a bearing geek. If it spins I'll run 'em...when they stop I replace 'em.

Randals are AWESOME trucks...with the right bushings. Khiros, Bones, the elusive Tracker Stimulators are great ways to go...the kingpin switch is a great/necessary mod too.

Just got an Original Skateboards 41" with their spring loaded trucks (www.originalskateboards.com) it is CRAZY FUN! Those trucks are MUCH more functional than you might first suspect. Worth a look for sure.

Seismics can't be ignored by any stretch either. Completely bad ass.

Wheels? For Longboarding? ABEC 11. Period. I've got some Kryptos, some Turner Avalons, Sector 9s, Gravitys. But across the board in any duro, any style, any size, but only one color...ABEC 11. Gravity would be my second choice. No experience with the 3DM stuff...

Oh yeah...a WHOLE LOT of Longboard wheels are OEM'd by Hyper (owner of the Kryptonic label) so there's a lot of the same wheel with different logos pressed on 'em.

What deck is that? Is it a custom? She's a beaut!

Do we have a choice?

To put Grumpy's speculation into perspective, I got way more product and love from Independent than I ever did from Abec11/Biltin. So freebies don't buy my love; performance does.

I'm not endorsing Biltins because Chaput gave some to me; I'm recommending them because, hands-down, they work better in any plastic-cored wheel than any other bearing/spacer combo. I've endured enough of the infernal spacer clicking from every spacer commonly (and uncommonly) available, and the only ones that don't do it is the Biltins. Yes, they're an acceptable Chinese bearing. But the built-in spacers seal the deal for me.

As far as durability goes, I have a set with more than 800 miles on them, and they haven't been cleaned or relubed yet, and are still fast as all get-out.

I actually AM a bearing geek, but when it comes to Abec11's and 3dm's, I'll only run Biltins.

Here are two pics of 3dm's pre-trimmed Avilas. The stock ones measure 65mm wide, and the trimmed ones pictured below are 56mm.

Something to consider.
