now this may have been discussed before but i have to say i do not like the new decks. there is nothing special about them. the art they have is just plain unlike the older ones it looks like there was more appreciation to it. anyone agree or disagree with that? |

i think you're onto something. graphics just aren't as strong as they once were. there used to be strong images that you could associate with the pros--the natas kitten, gonz faces, the entire bones brigade, etc. now it's all about company logos--the blind reaper, the girl symbol and the alien head. if powell peralta had started today, the ripper would be the only graphic available and you'd only be able to tell the pro models apart by the color variations. |

I agree i think theres alot of cut and paste stuff going on,although if you look deep into it you will find some good shit, the spitfire people were doing some creative stuff besides the fireball on wheelsalthough i think they pushed the whole satan thing /pentagram to far.,black label had some winners, santa cruz is struggling, consolidated is brilliant.plus theres some dudes on here doing some good stuff keeping to there old school roots. The graphics back in the day were excellent,I think it had alot to do with board dimensions as well,i have drawn alot of graphics for popscicles, the big problem no room, the hustler was a blessing a real fucking skateboard!!!!!
Either way i think its a cut paste world right now but have hope somebody will put shit right again.Great thread though. If i offended anyone sorry. |

They change the graphics so much nowadays that it's not surprising to me that there is so much lame art on decks.
Outt..

I really like the limited boards that the Deluxe brands have been putting out along with Evan Hecox's series for Girl and Chocolate.. Those are the ones that stick out in my mind. |

Not only that, but after an hour of skating the graphics are gone anyway on the new decks. So I think kids now really don't put an emphasis on graphics. Maybe for the initial "cool" factor when buying it ... but then it's gone.
But when we rode rail guards you could have your graphic for a while with only a few scratches in the middle ..... I remember knowing who a kid was by the board they had. It's almost impossible to do that now. |

I did the same thing... Then I started picking the deck because of the shape. The kids today don't get to do that either. |

I pretty much like all of the Evan Hecox Chocolate stuff. The Charles Harper inspired Habitat art is fun. Stereo is pretty good too. |
