my oldest has been getting alot of school correspondances lately from various universities/colleges that are interested in him for academics and/or atheltics.. typical form letters,etc..

Today he gets a hand written one from the asst head coach at Harvard stating that this guy is going be at his school on Monday to talk to his coach about him. I know it doesn't mean anything but that fact that it was hand written is pretty cool....

That's great. Mine sits around listening to old punk rock records and drawing Manga. He talks too much in lessons and is cheeky with it. A girl two years older (and built on the old sloppily-put-together lines -I hope I don't get arrested for that) is infatuated with him. He's funny and knows how to behave in a group of adults. He is rarely a bore.
I'm pretty pleased with how it's turned out, this far.

I don't give a shit if he gets a handwritten note though.

***edit*** by which I mean. Children are piss-taking terrorists and it's our solemn duty to keep them in check until they're able to function as decent/humble members of society. I can take the rough edges -time will sort those out- what I don't need is yet another chest-thumping, useless piece-of-crap who thinks he's God because some jock-high-school teacher decided to give him the nod. If you know what I mean.

Whoa. Need to lay off the coffee.

I suppose I'm saying. You could raise your sights a little higher.

I think we can all agree that having a healthy, well adjusted, good mannered kid is the best thing you can hope for. Its nothing to start a thread about though, although maybe it should be.
Having Haravrd take notice of some of your kids other qualities is kind of like th icing on the cake.

Being proud of your kid is absolutely a good reason to start a thread. We are more of a big, disjointed family here and I know that I enjoy hearing about how all of your groms are doing. It's cool that Harvard is interested in g_f's kid. They probably worked hard to get to that point.

@vilms: no need to be a dick about it.

I think it's a big deal. Just being noticed by a school, let alone Harvard, should be reason enough to be proud. You're also looking at a partially or fully paid education so that means more decks for you.

We know tha letter doesn't mean squat until there's an offer (if there's an offer). just the fact that he's never played organized US football until his sophmore year in HS and he's got schools like Univ of Miami (Hurricanes), USC, Oklahoma State, Brown Univ, Purdue Univ, and other Div 1 and Ivy league schols sending him crap just blows me and my wifes mind.

If athletics isn't his bag than he'll get in with his grades - 4.0 student and a Nat. Merit Scholar Recipient.

- ps plus he's a gifted self taught guitarist/bass player.

-pss plus he can do things on a skateboard that most normal 6'3" 300 lb just don't do - fake rocks to 360 rock n rolls, f/s smith grinds, f/s ollies to tail on 5-6 high mini ramps..that just blows my mind.

Can't help it.

I knew it'd come across like that. So I read the beginning of the thread again and it's still looking like this to me: "Guess what everybody? I *may* just be lining my kid up for the sausage factory!!!"
