you know, i hade the same problem with woodchuck laminates outta canada. they claimed to be all about skating, but then they import from china to have a deck that is a price point for the shops and small companies and so that they can stay 'competitive' when all they're doing is flooding us with crap wood that is killing any US or Canadian manufacturer.

Yes that is lame but I belive they label them.

yeah, if "label them" means that they tell the shop that is buying the decks that they are from china. the end user has no idea, and most shops don't give a fuck if it means they can put there name on somrthing at a lower price.

read this. i have no love for companies like this. especially when you go through there web site, and are all stoked about to make an order, then you get the price list and see shit like chinese wood on there. its fuckin greedy and its shady. they don't need to do it to stay competitive. they have some of the best quality, newest techniques, and they also have some good riders on their team. granted this takes money, but doing it at the cost of saturating the market with chinese wood is scandalous. look at the statistics of how many kids are riding shop models versus how many ride pro or team model. if they are helping that many more shops get chinese wood there is that many more kids riding it. anyone who contributes to this, is as much at fault as the next man whether he is up front about it or not. just cause a dealer on the street admits that he sells crack, it doesn't make it right.

How about this one guys....
I am just being hypethetical.
What if say....I went to China, or Mexico and setup a shop that does things the right way, the right wood, glue, finishing....everything.
Would you then feel comfortable getting decks from there?

If you could be assured that your quality concerns were met, as well as knowing that someone you know would be benefiting from it, could you sleep at night?
Of course I am not going there, but would it change this for you?

I will be waiting on your opinions.

Are you going to import your wood from Canada? I think that would flush all of the cost savings down the drain. You just can't squeeze the communism out of that soft spongy Chinese wood.

That's already being done. It's got to be cost effective, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it.

Damn thats a tough one skinny...I dont think I would support you. Sure your a nice guy and you said the quality is top notch but its still wrong. You can make enough to keep growin here in America. If you wanna make boards in china and sell them to the chinese then go for it but dont bring it over here. China gets enough of our support and money from all the other crap we buy.

Its not just a matter of quality and money its a matter of pride and respect.

we need to sell just as much to them as they are to us.....
mabye we can buy their shit cheap ....
and sell back to them (consumers) at inflated prices and mark em "made in usa"...... sounds fucked up i know .......

@skinny
isn't there also issues with the climate changes affecting the moisture of the wood? wouldn't that be a comprimise to the level of quality?
?

Dwindle's Chop Chop Wood shop is fully environmentally controlled for the optimum temperature and humidity.

But unless Skinny is going to stay in China and over see everything shit is going to get switched. No way around it.

I still don't like the idea. I still don't like the idea of Mexican labour being paid below minimum wage in woodshops in Cali either.
