I've got kind of a n00b question. I recently purchased the Lance Mountain future primitive re-issue from Powell. I read elsewhere on the board that the graphics were done via heat transfer. How can I tell the differece between a deck that was screened and one that had a heat transfer applied? |

look at it.
the heat trasfer will be smooth.
if its screened, where there is an overlap of colours, or where one layer is printing overlaps the edge of another, there should be a very slight rise, or a line in the case of the latter.
that description makes no sense, i know.
but you just know. |

Also if it's a screen, paint drips down the truck holes. |

Yeah, I noticed on the Mountain that the truck holes were covered. I also go the re-issue of the Tom Knox Ghoul and based on the aforementioned info you guys posted it seems to be screen printed. Thanks for the info. |

PP or Skate One is mostly if not all heat transfering the reissue graphics.
SC or NHS is silkscreening the reissue decks. A friend of mine intro'd me to one of the screener at NHS.

NHS started using transfers after about hte fourth or fifth round of reissues. You should have asked that screener why the Grosso demon and Roskopp 3 we so badly screened. |

I can't really tell either.
Paint in the truck holes is one thing.
I have decks that I know are transfers, but they have "overlapping" edges and shit. I think they are in a way "screening" the layers to create the transfer---if that makes any sense?
I've noticed that when a graphic has an area that has a gradation of sorts that utilizes "points" to show shading or gradations---that screened ink seems to be raised more than if it is a transfer. Am I right?
Notice how powell states they're shit is screened--but really looks to be a transfer?
Does anyone just screen anymore?
If yhe quality of the transfers are such that we can't tell---does it matter any more? |
