What kind of mix do you use for your mold skinny? Just plain old Quickcrete?
Do you leave in the rocks and gravel? Your's looks so much smoother than mine.

Vertical lamintes actually stiffen most construction.
Materials like ceramic weave, fiberglass, and formica can dramaticaly change flex. Flex is most directly effected by layups of maple, what I mean is, Maple and Birch can be peeled and sanded to thinner than 1/16.
Longer wheelbases can add flex, mellow concaves will add flex.
Hardwoods like ash can be vertically laminated for longboards to achive a surfboard like feel.
The question was not very specific but I hope some of this helps. |

Skinny,
When you make custom decks - can you or do you ever "reproduce" a decks shape?
My favorite deck of all time is probably the Steve Alba Bevel - basically because it was my first deck with concave. It made such a difference skating vert.
(This is a pic from http://www.tonyhallamskateboarding.com.au/index.html)
I know there are a lot of re-issues and I get the impression they are re-issues mostly in name and graphics only - not shape.
Even if I had a Bevel today- I wouldn't skate it for fear of damaging it. So the only chance to ride one again is to copy one!
Thoughts? |

Well,
The questions you are asking me are: do you make a single kick concave, can you make a deck thats 12 inches wide, and can you copy this decks shape and graphics.
I don't at this time have a really mellow single kick concave, I make decks right now at 9 inches wide, I can copy a shape or graphic.
I understand your desire to get that re made, I wish I had all the resources to do that kind of thing. Materials can be hard to find in that size, but I am constantly looking for reasonable suppliers for that stuff. As it is the special kits that I would have to order would not produce a reasonably priced deck. Plus I would need to order bulk. I am in the process of designing new concaves, and should have something in the spring. Unfortunately it would not produce that kind of deck.
I can tell you that Danny at factory 13 has decks with that concave and those dimensions. Thanks for your interest. |

yes it does help thx..
also wanted to ask your recommendations regarding construction of a stiff downhill board with deep concave. not a basic how-to, but a trick build, one that you'd build for yourself if you wanted a competitive dh board.. |

You answered what I wanted to know - which was NOT what I asked
I was not looking for a copy - really just looking to know if it is possible to get a board with that much concave - and actually with a double kick - so defintely not a copy.
Do you know how much concave the bevel has? Meaning - how would you describe the amount of concave? |

The bevel is the concave that followed the 3 degree (alba had one in this concave). As I remember it had a very slight tail, and almost no mid concave. Very flat.
I think that you can get an uncut here maybe:
Z Flex
429 Santa Monica Blvd., Ste. #550
Santa Monica, CA 90401
TEL: 888.ZFLEX.93 or 310.319.2012
FAX: 310.451.3858
e-mail: [email protected]
They had the closest thing to what you want.
If you really want just one maybe I could finish it. |

Skinny- I can get a one ton hydraulic press for free through a friend, will it work for pressing decks? Meaning psi wise. I don't know the brand or the specs all I know is it's free and it works and it's not home made. Thanks. |
