Hi I'm a noobie here.
Recently I started hanging out again with one of my buds from the olden days (the great trend era of 1987 to 1993) when we were young, dumb, and full of hardcore skate-or-die attitude.
He said, "I miss skating". I agreed. I had just given up my hobby of sports-cars (baby on the way) and am getting fat. I need thrill-seeking and I need exercise.
So we assembled boards out of our leftover old stuff and some new stuff - and then we went to Modern Skatepark for Fossil Night (Wednesdays 9:30pm to 12:30pm are half off for anyone over the ripe old age of 20, LOL). It's actually in the friggin' mall. Not the nice mall, mind you, it's the dirt mall, but damn...
I cannot express enough that they have a pool to die for. Nicest thing I've ever skated. 3-leaf clover, 3 depths, 3 hips. I rode a few empty pools back in the day, but nothing with this perfect transition and metal coping. OMFG I can't wait to go back and pull every muscle in my body again, while struggling to remember how to pump and rock-n-roll.
Local dudes - old guys like us - were ripping it up. One dude had a plastic banana board from the 70s and was carving like Stacy Peralta.
Getting a digi-cam soon - will post pics.
Thnx for reading. Never stop skating! |

This pool has concrete coping in the deep end.. And it does rock. Best bowl in Michigan by far. I wished I lived closer than 100+ miles from it.
Outt..

The end of that vid when the guy was telling Brewce to put the shirt on was one of the reasons I didn't like it when Van's owned it. To friggin anal. You couldn't sit and watch between runs and take your helmet off. Police state.
Now that Modern owns it the vibe is so much different. You are treated with respect. not like a little kid who has no clue and needs mommy to tie his shoes. |

Hi Scott,
Have they changed any of the ramps there at all yet? If they charge the same as the GR park, it costs more to skate there than when it was a Van's..
Thanks,
Jeff. |

No ramp changes yet. There is talk of another mini halfpipe like they have a GR.
Cost is $7 with membership $14 without. If you have a membership at GR you have one here.
But spring is finally here and outdoor skating is much better anyway. |
