just got a mini-food processor for xmas and thought i'd give some homemade salsa a 'go'

never really made salsa before, so i just kinda frankenstein'd it a bit
turned out a little watery/tomato'y but with a good enough kick (of heat) to not really care..here's what i used

1 16oz can of peeled tomatoes -drained
1 medium white onion coarsly chopped
2 jalepeno's with seeds
some cilantro
juice of half a lime

just a small batch for the guys at work and if they don't like it..hey fuck 'em, right it was free

i had some garlic laying around but it was raw and i wasn't sure if i should have sauteed it first...oh well..not a bad "Basic Salsa" for my attempt

so who's sitting on the good simple salsa recipes?

Definitely use the garlic, but roast it first. Good stuff. Keep the jalapeno seeds out of the mix. They'll get bitter. No-one wants that.
Also, you can add some white corn and black beans AFTER you puree the rest of the ingredients. Don't be afraid to throw some extra lime & cilantro into the mix, either.

yea i wasn't too sure about throwing the garlic in raw...

and i just kinda grabbed a clump of cilantro (de-stemed it), wasn't too sure how much was 'enough' ya know

now i'm on the hunt for finding some 'unique' peppers

Anaheims are nice. Try throwing a few chipotles (in adobo) in there for a nice, smokey bite! Besure to dice & seed them before going into the mix, though! Enjoy.

Best way to make Salsa in my opinion is to cut everything by hand, the machines cut it to fine and make it all sloppy and shit like the stuff you can buy at the stores. I have a kickass Salsa recipe that can be found in alot of Mexican restaurants out here if anyone is interested...

zodiac's right. roasted garlic will make your salsa. a few of those smoked anaheims or jalapenos you can get in the cellophane bags are good too just rehydrate em a bit and chop em up nice and fine.

6 medium sized-tomatoes (or 4 large ones)
1 smallish to medium onion
cilantro
green onions
2 cans chopped green chiles
hot peppers to taste
2 cloves garlic
2 to 3 tsp lime juice
salt to taste

Chop up the tomatoes, onion, green onions, cilantro, peppers and garlic,
and put them all in a fairly large bowl. Add the canned chiles,
lime juice, and salt. Stir that sucker.
I didn't put amounts on some stuff because I usually do it by sight.

This will make a large batch of salsa.
