Non traditionalists take note - anyone else chime in too...let's hear what you are going to have on your table next week.
One of my Betty's & I are going to make a sweet potato pie - pretty traditional in the South, but I've not made one before.
I also INSIST (even if I have to bring it) on the cranberry sauce in a can - in it's entirety, rings and all...(trick: open both ends of the can w/ a can opener - coax the mother out w a spatula in to a shallow bowl, no garnish)
Also, fo the day after - Durkee's Sauce for the turkey sandwich. If you've NOt experienced this nirvana, source it on the internet and get cha' some. MUCH more than a mayo/mustard mixture! |

Leftover turkey sandwiches are the only circumstances in which I prefer Miracle Whip to Hellman's, or light, fluffy, Sunbeam-ish bread to something better, like Pepperidge Farm or Gladiator bread (I can never remember the name, but that's what's pictured on the label so that's what I call it--it's in that orange plastic bag). Hydroponic Bibb lettuce is also a must.
I am a huge fan of the "little bit of everything" bite. I've found that the cranberry sauce (either homemade or canned, we have both) should go on the fork first, because it's damned hard to get on to a heavily loaded fork without losing some payload in the process. Follow it with some potato (either mashed or sweet) to keep it in place. Next is the oyster stuffing/dressing. Hold that in place with your other potato choice. Then, top it off with your piece of turkey with gravy. (***You should cut the piece of turkey first, before undertaking any of this, for obvious reasons...)
Your model may vary. |

We have the yearly fight over the stuffing. A family recipe for gahoctis (Spelling may be wrong, but man it's good shit).
It's basically beef, onions, and potatoes all ground together with a shitload of pepper, then stuffed in the bird. It's been around our family for generations...basically a sausage that's stuffed in a bird instead of casing.
Unmatched in my world - and one of my favorites.
I enjoy real cranberries, reduced with Balsamic / sugar for sauce.
And Torchiere Pie for the next morning. |

That'd be Roman Meal bread. (My personal favorite) |

Gonna Fry a whole bird, served with my homemade BBQ sauce.
Gonna stuff an entire Beef Tenderloin with garlic, Feta cheese and fresh basil.
Gonna make a pan of cornbread stuffing.
Gonna make a pan of gravy, complete with mysterious meat bits. mmm.
Gonna make a pot of mashed potatoes, skin on, with lumps, 'eavy on the butter and garlic.
Gonna make a squash casserole.
Gonna make a green bean casserole, just like it tells you how to make it on the back of the can of cream of mushroom soup, because that's the best way to do it and you don't need to add almond slivers or any dried apricots to any goddamn green bean casserole.
Gonna make a white chocolate key lime pie.
Gonna take a nap. |

The first of a bazillion google hits on "White Castle Stuffing".
http://recipecircus.com/recipes/Kitty...tle_Stuffing.html
I'd like to try it if someone else made it. Me, I'd rather just eat the White Castles if I had a bag of them to use as ingredients. Why mess with perfection? |
