Ok guys I was ordering some new screens today-(man I am busy so many new accounts!) I talked with Denise at CST and she has gotten alot of new people that have e-mailed her because of this forum. I have some info: ! call her she is way more helpfull on the phone and its free Telephone: (510) 351-2482 or 1-800-982-2771 (Outside CA), tell her Milton sent you!
2 they have a simple alternative to buying pre-bent screens, a loose ployvinyl screen that works for multiple color prints and is easy to expose, ask about it!
3 set up an account, I know it sounds like an advertizement but I dont work for them, If you set up an account it is easier to order replacement supplies and orders are filled quicker!

Hey skinny....CST hasnt hit me back in a while. I dont really want to call or anything I just want a quote on a prebent frame. Have you picked one of them up? If so how much did it run you?

| Well I use a special sublaminated process that is done before I press the decks. I have seen this before (california skate factory) and I don't need a pre bent one. I screen them flat but, Denise assures me that a phone call is better. They need some special info from you about frame size and degrees in the bends. I have ordered aluminum frames from them and they are really competitive mine were around 45.00 each with 230 mesh screen installed. They are the shit! The loose poly screens work really good too and would save you some cash. The bent ones when finished would still be the cheapest ones you would find trust me. CALL HER DAMN IT! how did the sanded down board work out? |

Right on, Ill give her a call once I gather my dimentions and shit. What screen type do you suggest?
I measured the deck I thought was an 8...turns out its 7 7/8 so its not really worth it. The rider will skate it no prob.
I am using an old deck to make some custom art though...we'll see how it turns out.

Ok Dave,
I use 230 mesh for most of my stuff. Ask her about the screen we talked about today but I dont know the mesh number, all I know is she says it works good without a bent screen. I think tim fron five points might have a hook up for the bent screens too but I dont know if he screens them after they are laminated. I dont know him but he is making alot of decks and I am sure he has been down the same roads I have. I also know that the dude from skate paige .com does screening for other people he might be of help. When I do the woodshop part of my site I will show pics of the flat screening process. You might want to talk to a place called generator distribution (ask for justin) they do heat transfer stuff if you want to explore the option. They want to apply the graphics for you. Shipping is the big obsticle there. |

A friend of mine goes through Generator. I emailed them once upon a time with no reply. Im more into silk screens anyway. Its more traditional and artistic.
Id love to see some pics of that crazy poly screen action.
For now I have my sights set on a bent frame with w/e is the best mesh for screening decks. Ill surf some old posts for tips.

thats interesting stuff guys, i considered using a bent screen but battled on with what i was familiar with, flat screens but worked on tensions and set up, which meant i coul do bigger runs, quicker and get consistency.
I am testing some heat transfers at the moment too.
hopefuly i can whack up or make available some photos for anyone interested.

I would use a flat screen but I dont manufacture and I want to go tip to tail. Pics of the transfer would be interesting. Like I said b4 I'm a fan of screening but knowing some info about transfers wouldnt be bad.
I have an idea for spray paint deck makers. You could get stickers that are like decals car shops use you know.....peel off one side....stick it to a window or something.....rub well....peel off backing......wa-la. a perfect reverse stencil.
You could spray one color under your design...stick the design on....spray another color..peel off sticker design...bam...
I dont know how to make those stickers or where to make them...what are they called...die-cut or something? or just decals.....blah blah blah

yeah trashcan.
that sound like a cool idea.
probably you can buy A4 blank sticker sheets that you could print on to using a home printer and your favourite graphic.
using a graphic reverse the image, print it, cut it, lay it on the screen and screen it. |

I had a decal from a local skate co and took an old deck painted red on it, let it dry, stuck my decal on, sprayed some white on, let it dry, then peeled it off.
It came out really clean but the letters were like indented in the spray paint and you can see the red through the white...it looks kinda pink. If I did another layer to make it solid white the letters would have been pretty deep. Maybe a clear coat will even things out. |
